Skirts + windy days advice?

Started this discussion. Last reply by Lolita Black on Thursday. 15 Replies

I live in a town that should be dubbed "The Windy City 2" and when I go out in skirts, I am grasping on to the hems with both hands praying that I don't give anyone a free peep show! I ponder ways to…Continue

Pin-Me-Up Progress Report No. 3

Fail.  Across the board.  I've worn active wear 70% of the time these past 2 weeks and haven't put much effort into hair or makeup. BUT! I have excuses.  (Excuses are a pet peeve of mine, so I apologize for giving them.)  1) I took on a big project that helps my husband, but takes up my free time and, frankly, my excess motivation, and 2) I am currently 2 months pregnant (yay!) so morning queasiness and depleted energy levels are zapping any "oomph" left in me to put effort into my daily…See More

Pin Me Up Progress Report No. 2

I've been a busy gal!  + Pin Up Plus:  I purchased my first sewing machine!  My mom is visiting and she is teaching me how to sew, and the first project we accomplished was taking in the sides of this white cardigan to be more form-fitting: I got the step-by-step tutorial from the Elegant Musings blog, here: …See More

I ponder ways to make my skirts wind-proof (hemming a hidden weight on the inside? Wearing a tight slip underneath and let the skirt fly up as it will?). Does anyone have a trick to keep her skirts by her knees (and not by her neck)?

Pin-Me-Up Progress Report

After about 2 weeks into my Pin-Me-Up personal challenge to revamp my tired stay-at-home-mom, Active Wear Hell wardrobe into a classy Pinup/Vintage homage, I thought it was about time for a progress report.  It's going...slowly...in the right direction.  I wish I could blink my eyes like Jeannie and have the entire PUG collection in my closet, but alas, I must scrimp and slowly collect when money permits, just like the rest of these lovely PUG gals here.  (But I must say that I am super…See More

Pin me up! (A retro makeover in the making)

Since I posted a discussion in the forum (http://www.pinupgirlstyle.com/forum/topics/ideas-for-a-mid-30-s-toddler-mom) about my recent transition into the vintage/pin-up realm of fashion (and lifestyle), and have received tons of great advice from PUGsters, I decided to add some accountability to this makeover journey via this PUG blog. Not only do I want to measure my accomplishments publicly, but I also…See More

Ideas for a mid-30's, toddler mom?

Hi all, I'm new to PUG but I've lurked the website for a year or so, and I'm super impressed with this positive community here on PUG forums! The reason for this post: I'll be turning 35 this summer and I'm a SAHM to a 2 y/o, and will possibly add another baby to the family soon, as well.So I've been hitting a mid-30's crisis about my wardrobe...I haven't updated it in years, and it was never a flattering style to begin with anyway. Plus, as a gal who's worked all her life and has now found…See More

Profile Information

Bio
Military spouse, stay at home mom to one boy and 2 crazy dogs, aspiring novelist and children's book writer, health nut, red wine and strong coffee connoisseur...
My resume is (too) long and I've done the 20 years of schooling, but now I realize that the housewives of the 1940s and 1950s were so much smarter and busier than me! I hope to capture some of their knowledge before it blows away in the winds of change.
I am new to the vintage scene, and hope to assimilate it's classic/classy styles into this era of self-assurance I am now entering. Both my husband and I always say we were born in the wrong time, and I've realized that, as a free-thinking adult, we can easily "live" in whichever era we want! Take all the good parts and add it into our experience however we like; make the world a better place than it was when we arrived. ;)
List your measurements if you'd like to help others with sizing
