Hi crafty dolls!

I have very recently (yesterday, in fact!) begun knitting after stumbling across some fantastic wools in a craft shop yesterday. My mother taught me how to do a basic knit stitch a good 20 years ago when I was a young girl...and surprising I remembered how to do it! However, that being said, after 4 hours last night, I achieved about 3 inches of a scarf (although I'm beginning to speed up now). As my husband lovingly pointed out, it's going to take me months! Still, I'm glad I started, as there is something very relaxing and therapeutic in the repetition - plus unlike my machine sewing, it's much easier to just pick up and start in front of the TV.

Anyway, now onto the help I need .... as mentioned, I am VERY beginner, and I'm hoping someone can point me in the direction of some simple, beginner ideas (other than a scarf or blanket)? I'm thinking of a cute beret? However, the definition of 'beginner' varies looking for patterns online!

Any advice or tips welcomed!

I assume you'e using straight needles, how about a doll? Or maybe some cat toys? I started knitting last year and started with these patterns, I made 6 whales and then did the doll, I actually just finished my first scarf in September.

Here's a simple whale, I make at least 3 of these a day, they're so easy! The local humane society appreciates the toys for the cats too :)  http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/whale-cat-toy-pattern

And here's the pattern for an Audrey Hepburn doll (I've also attached to this thread the one I knit for my friend Meg) http://www.canadianliving.com/crafts/knitting/knit_an_audrey_hepbur...

Happy knitting! Don't hesitate to ask if you think I can help you with anything.

Wow thanks Chrystal - some great sources there! Can't wait to look through these in more detail! I've spent another couple if hours in my scarf tonight ... I'm getting a bit quicker now. The Cat toys are a fab idea! I have two of my own plus I always donate to my local cat shelter at Christmas, so they may enjoy that in addition. I love the Audrey dolly too - she really put a smile on my face!! Thanks so much Chrystal - I've been motivated!!!
