Would it be a little too much to make a skirt out of this fabric?  Too over the top??

I think it would be cute

cute!

Not too over the top!! Super cute and fun! Put some red piping on it or something, and yum!!

I was thinking a wide red ribbon around the hem to go with the wide red belt that I must have to go with it...lol

The more I look at it the more I want to make it.  I've had the fabric for years and have only made a beach bag out of it.

Bummer!  the material isn't wide enough for a cicrle skirt :(  I suppose I could try more of a pencil skirt but I just don't have the figure to pull off that style.

A-line, maybe?

While looking through my meager selection of patterns to see if I had anything I could use for the pin-up fabric, I came across an old vintage dress pattern along with some forgotten fabric.  So I think I might put aside the girlies and try this instead.  What do you think?  I'm think I might go with the sleeveless one.  I have more than enough fabric.  I'm looking for more of a way to practice than anything.  My sewing skills are pretty limited to straight lines and while the package says 'EASY' it's all a foreign language to me...lol

That would be. Cute...YouTube is great for getting demonstrations on anything you're not sure how to do...The wonderful people on YouTube make it so easy to understand...

my wonderful MIL is going to walk me through it.  She's the go-to one in the family when it comes to needle & thread :)

That will be adorable!! I can't wait to see what you make!

I still don't think you should totally give up on the pinup fabric, though- I think the right pattern will show it off beautifully, and maybe you just need to use more of the solid red than you had initially thought. Of course, that requires shopping and planning, and I totally get wanting to do something with what you already have! The flamingos are seriously cute, and the dress is going to be smashing.

Not giving up on the pin-up fabric by any means!  Just setting it aside to ponder it a bit and look for a different pattern.   I'm getting excited about making the flamingo dress.   Wish I could start on it NOW!...lol  It'll have to wait for a week though.  Gotta get through Relay for Life this weekend then it's off on my belated Honeymoon, then I can come home and make my dress :)

Have fun!!!! ;)
