..like if you pretty ladies didn't already knew that ! :)

Pin curling is, hands down, the best technique to achieve vintage hairstyle. Women of the 40s...til the early 60s religiously pin curled their hair every night before going to sleep. It was the « base » of almost every popular hair styles of the time wether your hair was short or long.

As every « newbie pin curler », I'm aware of how frustrating it can get when you feel overwhelmed by spending 30min/1hour at night to have nice looking hair in the morning...

Fact is itsn't difficult to master BUT it does take time...

When it comes to doing my hair I must be one of the laziest girl I can think of... but I decided it was time to « cut that shit » (sorry for that :D) & start pin curling on a daily basis :).

I wanted to show you pics of the past couple days because it feels good when hard work finally starts to pay.

This is how my 5th pincurl set ever turned out. I tried the « alternate pincurls » technique (1 row clockwise & 1 row counter clockwive) also lnow as the pin curl wave.

Picture 1 is how the set turned out on day 1.

Picture 2 & 3 is how the same set turned out on day 2. (I re-pinned everything dry in place before bed)

This demonstrate the versatility of styling options pincurls give & also that spending a little time every night allow you to get 2 or more days (depending on your hair type/texture) of vintage hair.

I was happy with the result & it really motivates me to keep up with this gorgeous & healthy curling technique. :)

I feel I'm learning more everytime I'm doing it ! It's so cool !

I think that If your curls are very well secured & with a scarf tight over you should be fine BUT be carefull about sweat !!!

Personnaly when I work out I tend to sweat A LOT from my head & the neck is always very wet so it might re-wet your et again & ruin the overnight drying process !

You should it give it a try though because everyone's different & you might not sweat from your head as much a I do ^_^

I love re-pinning dry over night. One of the tricks I've learned to get more volume is to tease at the root before I re-pin that way the curl keeps its shape but you have lotsof volume.

Oh that's a great tip ! Thank you very much !

I find that sometimes the set is even more pretty & smooth the second day after repinning everything up dry at night :)

I'll have to try the root teasing technique sometimes !

Do you follow a pin-curl pattern? Or do you go all willy-nilly?  I had an A-line bob, very short, and am growing it out. I've since had it cut to be even at the bottom...no more A-line.  But now my hair is about 2-3" shorter than shoulder length, fine, and I have a lot of hair.  I have trouble pin curling it, especially the back. Any ideas on what to do with it?

I love your second set of photos - Very liz Taylor! :D
I kind of have a love hate relationship with pin curls. Funnily enough, the first time I did a set, they came out fantastic ('Marilyn Monroe' so I was told by quite a few!) alas, it must have been a fluke! The subsequent ones have never lived up :( I don't have frizzy hair at all, but I find the brushing out process a bother, and it just kinda does what it wants regardless of how much I brush. Also, I find going to bed in a set kinda puts a dampner on any romance, if you get me! ;)
I need to really figure out what I want to do with my hair. My bob lenght hair was so low maintenance and didn't require any styling in the mornings, but now it's growing out (shoulder length currently) it's begining to look a bit messy and needs more maintenance. I need to really decide whether I'm going to make the effort in the mornings with my hair, or get it all chopped off again.

@Sarah - my hair type sounds very similar to yours and pin curls worked great on my bobbed hair. My first set I did (the one 'perfect' one I mentioned above) was done on bobbed hair just below chin lenght. Just as a warning, you WILL look like the orphan Annie when you take your pins out in the morning, but the key is to brush, brush and then brush some more. To be honest, I don't really follow a pattern when pin curling - maybe that's where I'm going wrong. I would advise against using a mirror pin curling, and going by feel. I found looking in a mirror just ended up being confusing and going by 'feel' was a lot easier - but I guess everyone's different.

I had my long hair cut to a bob (shoulder length) so I could have more success with my pincurls but it hasn't worked. The first time I tried on shorter hair I decided to follow a pattern with one row going one way and the second row the opposite way. I was looking for a Dita Von Teese look. All I ended up with was loads of frizzy hair and people laughing at me! I couldn't do anything with it for days! I don't know where I went wrong.

I tried pin curling once and my arms were jello and quite a few pin curl clips went flying across the room haha.  I also have fine hair so using heat to achieve curls doesn't work for me.  I've taken to using sponge rollers as they give a similar result to pin curls.  The frizz can be frustrating but like you said - brush brush brush brush.   I also found that smoothing serum helps too.  I much prefer 2nd day curls that are "settled down" a bit more. :)

It looks wonderful on ya!!! Keep doing it :)
