So after being fed up with always having to either sped a fortune or send from overseas for a headband/scarf which I like. A friend told me that it was easy enough to make your own. So I went to see my dear Grandma today and she has spent  few hours with me trying to teach me how to use a sewing machine. I must admit I am not the most creative or artistic of people but I loved it! She has suggested that I practice first on old material then buy some material which I like when I feel more confident. The end product didn't turn out too bad to say it was my first attempt! So I need to tidy up the lines and tidy up my cutting of the material and I may be part way there! Feels good to say I made that!

So if anybody can point me in the right direction for some nice material, maybe Hawaiian flowers print or similar I would be very grateful! Keep posted for my finished product!

I adore Alexander Henry fabrics - not all of them, but many: http://www.ahfabrics.com/collections

I've seen these before and have been very tempted! What I should have said is I'm a complete novice at it so I am literally starting from scratch. I have no idea how much material I should buy, I have also just traced round a head scarf for my template, I am literally muddling my way through! I shall have a little more practice then when I feel confident I may invest! X

Haha, I still feel like that - I have a couple of projects waiting to be started/finished, and when I went fabric shopping I bought a couple of meters, if I were making just the one I'd have maybe bought a half meter.  You do get a feel for what you need - or you have a great fabric stash just waiting to be used!

You should do it Chavonne! Even if it does take you forever think of he reward at the end hen you know you have created that! I like the website there is such a good selection! I have the week off at the end of August and there is a really good market that sells all sorts of fabric for decent prices so my Grandma (bless her) has said she will come with me and hep me choose some nice material. Hopefully I will be able to make some decent head scarves then! Then who knows what if I have enough confidence I might even make eye masks and cosmetic bags!
