Hello Ladies!

Im just wondering any tips for starting out in the Pinup style life.

I work in a professional office as a Receptionist, so I am able to pull off a good, pinup style. Just need some help starting out :)

Thanks in advance,

Kathleen

Hi Kate!

My advice is to organize your closet and see if there are pieces that you already have that can be incorporated into your "pinup" wardrobe until you acquire more pieces.  I would say that it took me a solid 4 years to have a 99% vintage/pinup wardrobe, and it really almost broke the bank!  While I was building my wardrobe, I had to use the items I already had in creative ways to make them work for a pinup style.  For example, chances are you already have some cardigans, I would try to add a brooch to them and pair with a pencil skirt, I generally tuck my cardigans into pencil skirts and add a wide belt to cinch my waist.  Pencil skirts are a must, especially since you work in an office and they are so versatile!  A pair of seamed stockings can also add a vintage flair (I love What Katie Did stockings).

For me, what pulls the look together ultimately is the hair/makeup.  You may have something on that is vintage-looking but if the hair and makeup are done in a modern style, it isn't going to add to your look.  I really think that a vintage hairstyle and simple vintage makeup can take your outfit to the next level.

Also, there are so many tutorials on Youtube that you can watch for hair and makeup.  I'm sure the ladies here have their own favorites but I'm familiar with Lisa FreemontStreet, Cherry Dollface, and Pinup Doll Ashley Marie.  Tutorials have helped me a lot when I was starting out, just to give me an idea of how to even begin recreating certain hairstyles.

There is a ton more that I could say, but this is getting too long already! best of luck to you! <3

Thank you!

I know what im doing this weekend :)

Lady K you pretty much summed it up, I also go to second hand stores to find some cute vintage clothes or a cute pair of shoes when I can't afford to buy PUG. I agree the hair and makeup says it all. Youtube is my best friend! Cherry Dollface is awesome and Michelline Pitts DVD is awesome as well. This site has been amazing for me too, I have received such great advice on here from some friendly ladies.
