Hey Ladies!
Thought I'd post a blog about something I'm most passionate about, Vintage furniture and home makeovers ( hopefully theres some nerdy antique collectors out there like myself!) .
I always seem to be in homes that have some original charm... but the some disastrous modern additions.
My previous home in Minnesota I completely re-hauled!!! It was a total frankenstein house. But with enough paint, sparkle, and old junk it ended up pretty nice. ( If you want, I'll post some photos!)
Now, I am new here in California. Got a house in Burbank, just a mile from the shop! Only been there two months but I have been busted my but getting this early 50's home its charm back. Kitchen cabinets, part of the bathroom tile are original and it had the original wood floors... that were covered with disgusting carpet! Those were the first to go! A wood paneled den was added in the 1960s ( which I actually ADORE even though some think is tacky, I think it's fun and kinda funny) but in this room it had disgusting carpet with even grosses tile underneath.
Here's a picture of the before and after that myself and my boyfriend Huy did ( that's right, I can do laborious work, too!)
Anyone else into this type of stuff? If so , i'll post some more before and afters <3

Comment by Dijana Marrufo on October 10, 2012 at 2:03pm I love decorating and love to see home renovations. We live in an apartment so we can not do too much to change our surrounding other then adding our own touches with furniture and art. I loved your house before and I am sure the new one is going to be even more fabulous! Did you sell the old one before you left? However got that is a lucky ducky!! =)

Comment by Jen Bakija on October 16, 2012 at 3:41pm My husband & I have been in our 1923 bungalow for a year and a half. Since we've arrived we've put in a 1953 stove (have to light the oven with a match!) and our newest addition is our 1948 hotpoint refrigerator. We love bringing it back to the original styles... please do post more photos, I'd love to see them!
Comment by Double O Jenn on October 28, 2012 at 12:39am can't wait to see more photos! in fact, your "backgammon" wall in your old house is one that has brought many a discussion between my bf and i (he's trying to figure out a focal pattern for the focal wall in his apt's living room). i can only dream right now, but your ideas are quite inspiring! thank you for sharing doris!
YES! My family can literally comprise an entire construction company, I grew up watching houses being built, and then eventually participating in cosmetic reconstruction by painting inside, outside, pavers, sidewalks, lol! This chick gets down and dirty! haha! It's SO much fun to see the before and after because the after is just vastly different and pretty. It would be so fun to totally deck out my house, 50's style. But the hubby is totally modern. So we had to come in the middle with the decor. lol!
OH! BTW, it's SO cool you live so close to the botique. Before I moved away, that's how it was when I was a high school Spanish teacher in my hometown. I lived 7 minutes away from my school. It was perfect in the winter time...lol. more pics!!>>
