@Jennifer, basically you curl your hair with a curling iron and then roll it and secure it with a pin curl clip. The longer you leave the set in the longer your curls will hold throughout the day. I left it in for a few hours yesterday and have brushed it out several times and it's still curly this morning. I learned it from this video with Miss Ruby: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZDqdVVZDCk
