Not sure we have a poll feature here, but I'm curious as to how many ladies do Wet Sets vs. Hot Roller Sets on their hair?

Can you also please mention the products you use while setting your hair?!

Thanks ladies!

Hi Auburn,

do you find that it makes a differance to leave the curls pinned down for half en hour? I have very thick and straight hair too and i usually leave them in for five minutes approximately untill they feel cool. And the curls looks fine then, but two hours later they have all fallen out :( So i have somewhat given up on curls but might give it another go, trying your tactics.

The wet set would not work for me either, it takes forever for my hair to dry and hot rollers i still have to try. Just worried it will be the same as a curling iron...

i try to do wet sets, but i always end up with frizzy gross ends :( i have the same problem with hot rollers too, the kink where the clip goes, I end up having to go over my roots with a flat iron.  I have naturally wavy/curly hair so curls will stay for days but that also means that it doesn't brush out very well either.  I want to be able to do my hair in pincurls at night then take them out in the morning to cut down on gettin gready time, does anybody have any luck getting them to work without the frizzy ends?

I find foam rollers to work wonders. I do a dry set. Make sure to factor in the direction you roll your hair. I start with freshly washed wet hair add B&B styling lotion I then dry my hair but not completely. I focus on getting the ends dry since they will not dry completely in the rollers, then roll my hair , wrap my head in a scarf and sleep on it. Once I take the rollers out I brush through all the curls repeatedly, don't worry you won't brush out the curl. Your hair will be a bit big but as you continue to brush your hair will start to take shape with the aid of your fingers. As I brush out all my hair the curls start to take a smoother shape and become less separated. I use my fingers to sculpt the hair in the direction I want it to go. I spray it with a strong hold aerosol hairspray, I use Paul Mitchell extra body. It works and is not terribly expensive. This will usually last a few days with minimal touch ups with the aid of a curling iron or a few hot rollers to revive relaxing curls on day 2 or 3.

Your curls look fabulous Jinny!

Thanks Jinny! That will be extremely useful for when I do hair for photoshoots and end wraps work great for unruly ends :D

I use both types of sets. The hot rollers are a looser curl, and the wet set gives me a tight, very authentic curl.

When doing a wet set, I use Lottabody setting lotion and foam rollers. YES, your hair will be frizzy. The trick to getting the frizz out is to brush it up against your hand (this works!) and to use a pomade to make the hair smoother and shinier. Yes it sounds crazy and it always seems like the frizz will win, but it takes practice and alot of brushing :)

If I plan well, I'd rather do an overnight setting with foam-type rollers or pin curls.  I can't do it with wet hair I usually start with dry hair and use a spray bottle to dampen my hair as I go.  I have fine but relatively thick hair and this seems to help me keep some curl all day long.  Haven't done much with setting lotions/styling balm but I want too now!  If I am out of time I will do hot rollers but even with five tons of product in it my hair won't hold.

Heard that one needs high quality (aka salon brand) shampoos and conditioners for the right pH in order to really help your curls stay.  Another thing I need to experiment with.

I have yet to master any sort of style with my hair, BUT I've been trying to figure out how to get a curl to stay for years now!  So I went to the best source I could think of, my mom's hairdresser.  She's a lovely who's been doing hair for about 50 years so I figued she'd be the one to ask.

Wet/damp set in foam rollers.  The key to not having the crinkled, frizzy ends are using the paper End Wraps.  The little tissue paper type squares that get put on the ends of your hair when you get a perm.  The foam rollers are nice and cusioned and the paper keeps the ends easy to wrap around the roller.

Works everytime for me when I need some curl.  I get the occasional stray lock in the back that got a little kinky but i just smooth that out with the curling iron.

I live in a very humid climate (South Florida) and I find that hot rollers and curling iron curls never stay on me because of the humidity. The method that best works for me as of right now is making curls with the flat iron.

My hot roller curls also don't last long. I sometimes put in the hot rollers, leave them till they are dry, put them in a second time and do the same thing. Then I still pin the curls for a bit. This has helped but is timely and tedious. My hair is too long for a wet set to work well, even though I have a 50s hairdryer that you sit at and pull over your head. The ends never dry for me. The best I can do is wash my hair, partly dry, do large pincurls, put it all under a bandana and leave until the next day! That way I get about 3 days out of the curls. Again, long and tedious.

I am SO glad I am not the only one with thick, fine, straight hair, inhere!!!

I use flexi-rollers when I can't do a wet set. I have huge problems with frizz when I do a wet set, even though I know how to brush the frizz away (in other cases, that is). But the flexi rollers seem to work! But the curls are too tight for some hair-do's... So I'm thinking about trying out a wet-set with foam curlers. Anything you girls think I should stay clear of?

Hot rollers and curling irons don't work for me. Curling irons only work when I want waves...

Try putting shine serum in your hair to help with frizz! The key is shine serum (I use Bedhead) and brushing and brushing and more brushing!
