The many hair styles I have learned since embracing the pinup look

So it has now been a little over a year ago that I bought my 1st PUG dress (the Daisy heart dress in cream yellow) and pretty much from then on I changed my entire wardrobe, make up, hair and basically the way I get ready. I actually rearranged my apt to house a giant make up station lol.  A little after discovering PUG Micheline had her first make up class for beginners at Nigels which also changed my life (and my brows forever) Then I joined a vintage ladies group thanks to Technicolor Cutie  ( http://technicolorcutie.blogspot.com/ ) and learned even more, specially in the hair department! So this is a few of the hair styles I have practiced until finally one day it all clicked. Here are the results, I have added links where I could to help!

This is my natural clean hair, which is what I have to start with every time and it's awful. But if I can do it with this, I'm pretty sure anyone can manage these styles. I usually wash my hair the night before I want the look.

I also straighten my hair the night before so it cuts down getting ready time the day I actually get ready. I use a heat protecting spray by fructise. It comes in a green/see through bottle and you can get it at target for like $7 bucks.

This is an easy one, I just part my hair on the side and pull it all over to the side for a pony tail. I section the pony tail into large sections and use a curling wand that is 1" around. You can section into as many or as little sections as you want. I have a lot of hair and so I do 4-5 sections for a large wave effect. After it's curled I use my fingers to twirl the entire ponytail together. I finish with hair spray and this cute little bow I learned to tie from Micheline's youtube video. Found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7KJFc6FjXk

This one takes a long time. Since I have enough hair for 3 people I need to section it into small pieces. I use a setting spray for heat and again I use the curling wand to curl each section. I side part my hair and then separate the back from the front. Then I follow a basic roller set pattern, but instead of using rollers (as shown here: http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6217/7000290543_13b512ff08_c.jpg) I use the curling wand. I leave the curls hang out until I'm done curling all my hair (about 35mins) Then I start brushing it all out and if you followed that chart all your hair should come together in the same pattern. I spray the heck out of it with hair spray.

Ah the mystery of the victory roll. You will need lots of bobby pins! I watched like 50 youtube videos and could not get this for the life of me. This is a more toned down version. You will have to look and see what method works best for your hair. I teased the hair at the base. The main tip that I learned from Technicolor Cutie is that you pinch the roll at the middle of the strand of teased hair, then roll the end it into your fingers and THEN roll that down into a Victory Roll. This is not easy for me, took me almost a year to get it down. The back of my head is actually a Gibson roll which you can't see (tutorial:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qSmUKTY2XDI)  .  I finish with hair spray and added flowers.

This is a more dramatic Victory Roll, which is achieved by twice as much teasing and 3 times as much hair spray. You only use the front half of your head so I gathered the rest into a pony tail and curled that. A good tutorial for this can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TkiYhExw3kM. I added flower clips again. Tip: You can go to Michael's and buy any flowers you want and take them apart and hot glue them to silver hair clips you can also find there.

For this look I parted my hair to the side again. Then I sectioned around my head: from the part to the base of my head. About six sections. Then from the ends I rolled my hair upwards to the base of my head and secured each roll with bobby pins. I sectioned off  a smaller roll for the front sections and took them up to the side of my forhead. This is actually quite fast and took me about 15 mins. I just winged it, no tutorial, sorry. Then I added this cute 1940's french hat.

And finally the bumper bang! Also took me lots of practice. For this style it is VERY useful to have a hair rat even if you have lots of hair (see Angelique noir explains the hair rat here: http://www.pinupgirlstyle.com/group/all-natural-skin-and-hair-care-...)

And the tutorial from Micheline for the bang technique here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FyBjMPnhfQI

I am amazed that I know how to do all of this now, a year ago I only wore lip gloss and would just sometimes straighten my hair. I hope this helps and gives hope to some of the ladies that might just be starting out, you WILL GET IT! Just gotta practice practice practice!
