Hey everone, I have been admiring PUG hair and victory curls for a while now. My hair is very long, down to my butt, and thick. I have tried using rollers and curling irons to get the victory curls but neither will work. The heat won't transfer from the rollers, through all my hair, to the roots. So my curls fail about half the way up my head. I really love my long hair and don't want a hair cut. Any suggestions? Also I have a sock hop to go to tonight for my birthday. Any suggestions on a style that will last a night of dancing?

I used to have hair down to my butt.  It wouldn't keep the curl from an iron very long because the weight of the hair would pull it down but I did have success with rag rolling my hair.  I once went to a social where no one recognised me because my uber long hair was suddenly shoulder lenghth & curly!

Victory rolls are a little tricky (hard to keep the hair from spreading out the sides as you roll up, but if you can play around with pinning up the curls you get from rag curling that should give you some volume on top.

Rag curling? I've never heard of that. How is that done?

There are some great tutorials on youtube (I'm a very visual person, so seeing the step by step really helps :-)

You basically take barely damp hair, roll it around a srtip of fabric & tie the fabric in a knot close to your scalp, leave for a few hours or overnight & you end up with some pretty fierce curls

also rag curls are easier to sleep on then pin curls or sponge rollers...

I have long hair as well, i use a good curling mousse, & use hot rollers,, as i take each curl out i spray it with a really good hairspray/laquire, as mostly put in a low ponytail 2 the side, but ive had enough of all the work, so im getting layers cut in, so it wont take as long 2 do, but still keep the length, good luck doll :)

I got good results from Rag-rolling my hair as a teenager. If I did it while my hair was somewhat damp, it would last at least 24 hours. I imagine using some sort of product would help it hold even better. I recently read a quick guide that showed pin-curling damp hair, then covering each curl with a square of tinfoil, then briefly heating each curl w/tinfoil with a flat iron.

I also found this video for doing Victory Rolls with longer, thick hair:

Victory Rolls for Long Hair on YouTube

She makes it look so easy, I'm going to have to try it on my own long hair.

Found the pictorial of pin-curls with a flat-iron, as far as I can tell the original post is in Polish, but the pictures are self evident.

Curling long hair

well I have found the layers help a lot with achieving vintage hairstyles. However Ilovegerado on youtube does some long hair tutorials
