Hello ladies! Just curious to hear everyone's PUG story...what was your first PUG piece, the one you saw that made you buckle and break down and finally order already? Is it still your favorite out of however many other PUGs you've accumulated since then?

On a slightly separate topic, I have noticed a LOT of wiggle-dress love. I'm wondering, do folks in general go more for those designs compared to flared, swing-style dresses? For me, twirly skirts with big fluffy petticoats can't be beat. I've never yet tried on a wiggle dress that I much cared for the way it made me look, but I seem to see a lot more pictures and more sales/swaps of those form-fitting slinky numbers than I do of my beloved swing skirts (then again, maybe everyone with the swing dresses loves them so much they never ever sell them...hmm...).

Can someone from the wiggle camp open my eyes? Why do you like it so much? Do you like it more than the 50s flare, or does it just depend on the occasion/mood you're in?

Love the wiggle dresses and Pinup Couture pencil skirts because they give me a figure. Swing skirts/dresses are lovely, but are very girly whereas the wiggle is sexy, classy, and (if modest enough!) professional. With swing dresses, I feel like you see how beautiful the dress is FIRST, and then the person. With wiggles first thought is wow, you look gorgeous! If you're not willing to go full out for a formfitting dress, I HIGHLY recommend trying out one of the pencil skirts (I prefer the Pinup Couture because of the prints and they're cotton instead of bengaline. They're also fitting, but not as tight as the bengaline ones. I pair mine with a doris top and wear a lacy cami underneath for modesty as well as that extra bit of sass.

My favorite combination is a red doris top with a black lacy cami underneath (love the contrast) paired with the cherry print pencil skirt. To really give me an hour glass figure I wear one of the thick PUG belts with it.

Thanks for that perspective! You make a good point about wiggles emphasizing the woman underneath, while swing dresses can stand alone on their own dramaticness, regardless of who's wearing it underneath.

I will definitely look into the pencil skirts you recommended, thank you! I do work in retail where the dress code leans toward not-so-dressy, which usually keeps me from investing in things that would work better in an office environment...but I am also on the hunt for an office job, too, so when/if I land one, I'll probably need to overhaul my wardrobe in that respect. ;)

Also, have you heard of Miss Candyfloss? Google them - they've got quite the selection of swing dresses and shipping is only $6.50.

Ooh yes, I've admired their stuff for a while. I will say that for me, I really tend to go more for the unusual novelty prints, so that's usually what I choose to spend on compared to more universal/typical fabric patterns. I always keep my eye out for any surprises, though :)

My purchase was almost 6.5 years ago (hard to believe). I was the leopard wiggle dress with built in corset & cherry wiggle dress with built in corset...still have them!

Lovely!

I would say I have a fifty/fifty split on the wiggle puffy thing. I have a lot of both and I tend to wear the big skirts for the day and the wiggles for the evening. I'm in my fifties so I'm probably not typical. I fell in love when I saw the cerise marylin bathing costume *sigh* - being an older lady I was looking for something to wear on holiday that made me feel GOOD dammit. We have a holiday villa in Florida and were going with the children - I have three beautiful daughters in their twenties - not to mention the boy's stunning girlfriend and couldn't bear the feeling that Mama was getting past it. My husband loved it so much - he bought me one in Blue - they have both been worn to death and I feel so sexy and grown up in them. Wonderful for the ego. I also have a passion for the AVAs - I bought the jade one for my daughters wedding and the teal one for a Blitz Party (which is a WWII party scene we have going over here in the UK) and I've just bought the tangerine one....jut because I love it so. I don't have any of the PUG swing type dresses - I go for Laura Ashley vintage just because I prefer the longer length.

That's a good point. Yeah, when I see the wiggle dresses they definitely always say "after hours" to me.

So great you found some fab swim suits to feel beautiful in! I know how hard that can be, believe you me.

My first purchase was just over a year ago, it was the Anna dress (white with cherries). Around the same time my sister bought me the berry Erin wiggle dress, and I love them both!

As for the style I prefer, I don't know...I wore a petticoat for the first time last weekend and it was loads of fun, but when I wear my Erin, I know that I look fabulous! The swing dresses are probably more cute, where the wiggles are more sexy...I guess it depends on the occasion and the look you're going for! I probably won't wear a wiggle dress to a dance anymore...not exactly easy to dance in!

oo I find the wiggles easy to dance in, but I suppose it depends what sort of dancing you do. Ah, but then, thinking about it I wear the AVAs and Trashy Diva Trixie sarong for dancing - split skirt, see. Fine for foxtrot, swing, salsa and something we oldies do called the social creep!

Hear hear! Because the place I wear my dresses most often is to go out dancing, that's always my primary consideration in making my purchase. "Hmm, looks nice, but how does it twirl?" is the thought process there ;) I think a wiggle would be really difficult to dance in, and certainly not as eye-catching on the twirls.  I guess I just don't have any wiggles yet because I don't have any occasions to wear them to!

I definitely leave the petticoat at home whenever I wear a swing dress to work :)
