Altering the Jessica dress and finding the right bra

So, I just got the Jessica in the burgundy/black color and I was surprised that it wasn't as snug as I thought it would be. I got the XL but I feel like it runs a bit bigger. No big deal, but a surprise. I also have 2 issues at the top - in order to keep the belt under the bust and still have coverage up top, my bra shows and the straps kind of want to fall off my shoulders, and not in a sexy way, more like in a this-dress-is-too-big kind of way. If I pull the dress down so that the straps are firmly on my shoulders, it does weird things at the bust and shows WAY too much of my bra. I have the Panache Zara bra, which is great for low-neckline dresses but can't really be worn without straps if I want to keep the girls  in it and in my dress. My strapless bra has cups that cover almost the entire breast, so there's no cleavage and it shows. 

So - has anyone got good recommendations for a strapless bra that doesn't have a full-coverage cup but still comes in a larger cup size (36 FF or 36F, depending on the brand)? Also, has anyone altered the straps of the Jessica so that they're shorter? I could do it myself, since I sew all the time and frequently alter my dresses for my shortness. :) I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this issue and how they solved it. I want to love this dress but I'm not sure right now if it's going to work.
