Mac Russian Red - my favorite.
What's your skin tone? warm/cold? I would start out by just buying a bunch of dollar store lipsticks and trying them all, the quality won't be as good and they're going to smear but you can get a good idea of what flatters your complexion and what makes you look like a ghost/vampire. I'm an extremely fair brunette and usually I have to stick with deeper/richer reds as the brighter stuff does the ghost/vampire thing to me.
Another thing is that if you're extremely fair, a toned down red might be for you.
I.E. Mac Viva Glam/NYC Snow White/Revlon Matte's Really Red (probably a perfect shade for you/
but I don't know if you're going to look better in orange reds or blue reds so... you still have to try them out :)
