Hi everyone!

I am curious how you develop friendships with other pinup girls, either on here or in life in general. I don't really know anyone else who is into being a pinup outside some relatively casual acquaintances on this board. I tried to start a local pinup group on this board, but there apparently aren't too many Bay Area folks here.  Anyone want to share ways you meet people?

cheers,

Katherine

I don't lol

Where I live, there might be a couple of people into "vintage" in the entire county, but there's unlikely to be anyone who's into it "properly" i.e. as a permanent style or interest if you see what I mean?

It's easy on here, because everyone's so nice and friendly; and a real bonus for me is that people are here when it's good for them to be here (including myself in that), and in that time there are no constraints - well, except for the fact that it's 5.30am and I should be getting ready for work lol

Well, I came to the pinup/retro thing only within the last couple of years. So you could say I started rather late in life. I must say that this board has helped me so much. I have made some very wonderful friends. Since I live in So Cal it is easier I guess to find others with similar interests. But besides being active here I decided to take things into my own hands. I started to organize Meet Ups open to anyone interested. They have not been huge things. The most that ever attended were about 6 people. Out of those meet ups I have gained some true friends. We've gone shopping together, gone out to eat and just generally do the things that friends do. There was another PUG member who was going to organize some Meet Ups here in the LA area, but for whatever reasons, those never happened. So I just decided to try. The first attempt only one other person showed. But we had a great time and now we have gotten together regularly. The PUG boutique here is of course a great magnet. But once I asked if anyone was interested in going to a vintage clothing show and I met another new friend that way. Just keep trying. Also try to get out to vintage or pin up related events, and of course look your pin up best and be open to meeting new people.

I hope that this has helped, Katherine.

I agree with Brandi, I just moved to Utah and I get a lot of double takes when I walk down the street (to put it mildly)

I recently just googled "Rockabilly Utah" and I found a Facebook page dedicated to the rockabilly/pinup community where they post upcoming events like car shows, concerts, and pinup contests. So see if there is a Facebook page for your area. Going to vintage or rockabilly clothing stores is another way to find girls that are interested in the same styles as you. Good luck! If anything, you always have us here on PUG Style!!

Oh yeah! When I first started visiting vitnage/pinup clothing stores I would ask the employees if they had any suggestions about where to go. I got the suggestion to go to the Cicada Club from a few different people and it is now one of my favorite places to go for a special night out.

I'm so glad you posted about that club! I've been going to the fashion district for years and never knew it was there. I'm definitely dragging the hubby there some time. :D

Virginia, you have just got to go. IT is a bit pricey if you go for dinner. But if you just want to hear great music, dance to your heart's content and have a beautiful place to look your best, Cicada is the place. I am not 100% sure, but I may be going this Sunday night.

I actually started a "Ladies Who Love Vintage" group in Minneapolis - I was inspired by a few blogs I read who have their own vintage ladies groups and they get together to do things like crafts, dinner parties, going to the beach, etc.  There are only 4 of us in my group right now but hey we are just having our first meeting next week - we're having tea.  I wrote a blog about how I would love to meet and hang out with other vintage/PUG gals and posted the link to Instagram.  Sure enough some of my followers were like "heck yes, I'm in".  And from there it's just word of mouth.

I totally hear you though - there isn't a HUGE PUG/Vintage/Rockabilly following in Minneapolis like there is in Cali so I'm dying to find some of my like minded peers.  :)
