I need some help. I've invested in a pair of dark denim high waisted jeans with 5 buttons running from waist to hips - which I love the look of in theory, I'm just not sure if they like me right now!.

very excited about their arrival today, and have got them on. However, I can't decide whether they look fabulous or ridiculous, and am flip flopping between the two in an instant! (This is probably not helped by the fact that the other night when I mentioned high-waisted in passing my husband pulled a face like he'd eaten something sour, and shook his head. Now, I take this with a MASSIVE pinch of salt as he knows nothing about fashion, and generally ends up loving everything I wear and is a convert within a few minutes!)

I'm wondering if I'm wearing them right? If anyone has any tips/tricks/ideas.

I currently have on: high waisted denim, with a white cami top tucked into them, and a navy blue hip length cardigan with covered buttons over the top. Large beaded necklace, matching earrings and a matching coloured scarf tied around my hair with it down.

Do you put belts  or waist cincher belts on with them? (they have no loops),

No sooner do I decide I love them, then I catch another reflection and think I best take them off before anyone sees me and laughs!

Please help - I really want to love them!! haha

.xx.

I usually wear mine with a tucked in turtleneck as it's a casual and cute vintage look, but mine are black. I think high waists pair better with long sleeves because they do offer more balance that way.

Usually I do wear mine with a belt but I have a really high natural waist and the pants actually sit a little below it so I put the belt on the shirt to show off my waist.

Vertical stripes, bow neckline t-shirts, and cardigans also tend to look really really good with high waist pants!

Would love to see photos of yours so I can give you better advice for your particular pants!

I don't know what size you are but I bought my denim high waists with buttons from eBay (but mine are shorts)

and they are awesome :)

maybe something like these would work too?

I do needlework and for the most part, for how much it's going to cost to have them altered, you're better off just buying a new pair. I think for tailoring/resizing prices are going to start at $40-$45 and go up up and up, especially if they have already been altered once already

They sound gorgeous, but I can understand if it's something new and a look you haven't tried before why you may be a little unsure.

Don't over think it - it sounds like you styled it well. Take it off and try it on again tomorrow and see how you feel.
I love high waists - funnily enough being an hourglass figure I thought they would look horrendous on me, but after buying my first pair from River Island a few years back, I became a convert. I typically wear them with tucked in vests or even bodysuits to show off my curves. I'm not sure what exactly your concerns are with them, or what in particular you feel makes them look silly, but (for example) you can balance out hips with a cropped swing jacket or a cropped cardigan buttoned up at the top only. Or maybe you could try it with a white button down shirt tucked it if you wanted to tone down the vintage? That with a silk scarf or a row of pearls I bet they would look fabulous!
My rule of thumb personally is always to wear high waists with heels ... I'm 5,7", but if I were to wear high waists with low/flat heels I always think it makes me look a bit dumpy (for want of a better word!)
Don't be shy in posting some pics, I would love to see how they look!!
