Im visiting Austin this weekend and would like to know if there are any TX girls on here that have suggestions on places to shop, or bars/restaurants you think I may like based on our mutual interest in this type of culture. Any replies greatly appreciated! <3

Hi Rachel!

I'm from Austin...if you get a chance, go to The Highball, it has 8 vintage bowling lanes.

For shopping, there are a ton of vintage shops on South First. My favorite is Amelia's RetroVogue and Relics. For lingerie, check out Teddies for Betties (not sure about spelling).

As for bars, the Continental Club is awesome, as are the beauty bar, the swan dive, and the Liberty Lounge (below Bijou Studio, an awesome tattoo shop you may also want to check out).

As for food, I love Bouldin Creek. It's vegetarian, has many vegan options, and has great prices and is very 'Austin'.

Have a wonderful stay!

Thanks Nx Ill be sure to check these out! Cant wait to get down there, Im excited :D

No problem! How long will you be in town? I'll let you know if I think of anything else.

Only 3 days but I imagine Ill be up day and night trying to take in as much as I can ;)

I live in Houston, but I visit Austin often. The Continental Club and entire South Congress area are amazing. It gets super crowded on weekends - if you can avoid taking your own car and having to park, you should - but there are lots of cool shops, restaurants and bars. Check out Lucy in Disguise With Diamonds - it's a costume shop and it has TONS of great stuff. I'll try to think of some more suggestions for you...

Cool! Were actually going to Houston after Austin to visit family. Last time I was in Houston I found a couple cool places.. Replay on 19th was my favorite :)

In Houston you definitely want to check out the 3600-3700 blocks of Main where our Continental Club is, as well as lots of other shops. Kind of a miniature (very miniature) version of S. Congress. A couple other stores you might like here are Red Rocket Speed Shop and the Haunted Heel.

Damn I can tell those are awesome based on the names alone! haha Ill have to check them out, thanks!

I Love:

Blackbird (awesome and unique clothes and jewelry) and Blue Velvet, both on North Loop. There are like 3 other vintage shops there.

If you are in town for the 4th, there is a mini-urban drive in, which is awesome as well as a burlesque show: https://www.facebook.com/events/303068536452593/

Bohemia on SoCo

This weekend, July 8, is the 29th street ballroom vintage sale. Its on the drag at 29th street and has like 20 vender at it w/. cheaper vintage clothes.

For burlesque stuff, my go to is kuhmillion.com - she is local to Austina and Happy to let you try things on and exchange things.

Unfortunately I wont be there for the 4th :(

All great information though thank you very much! Sounds like Soco is the place to be :)
