Vintage Hair Styles to Weather Bad Hair Days? (pun intended)

Hi ladies,

It seems like for the past month, every day has been a bad hair day here. It has been raining, humid and/or windy and it has been nearly impossible for me to find a vintage style that will hold up under these conditions! Particularly because I have fine, naturally straight hair that barely holds a curl under perfect weather conditions. My every day look is hair down, set in pin curls and brushed out.  Since this style doesn't hold up well in bad weather, I'm looking for any tips or advice you ladies can offer for alternative hair styles.  How do you style your hair pinup/vintage when the weather is not cooperative? What hair products do you find helpful in holding up your style?

Thanks!! XOXO

How about a snood? I have a cute red one that I can just bundle my hair in if it's particualry uncooperative!

Today I fancied something vintage-y as well, but only with a short amount of time, so I did a 40's inspired side twist (unsure what else to call it!)... grabbing a section of hair at the front and twisting while adding more strands, until it can be pinned just above my ear. Very quick and keeps my hair away from my face.

In terms of actually styling, I would be interested for tips too, as I'm not all that great with hair. My victory rolls aren't very victorious and my pin curls droop by the afternoon! :'(

Are you making sure to tease the base of the victory rolls and doing them on dirty hair? And what sort of setting lotion are you using for your pin curls?

Yeah - bought a special teasing comb and everything! I have just bought some working spray that'll try out this weekend to see if it improves the styling process. I'm pretty sure it's a case of practice makes perfect, it's just that I'm not very patient! I'mn using lottabody setting lotion, but it doesn't seem to make much difference whether I use a lotion or nothing at all. I know my brushing technique could do with some work too - it's a 50/50 chance whether it'll look good or not!

Snoods, scarves, and any style you can shellac your hair into.

Today, it's windy and snowy/rainy like all get out. I'm wearing a snood and I've twisted and hairpinned the front to give it a bit of volume. If it won't be terrible windy out, I'll do victory rolls or a scarf roll to tame my hair. If I'm just bumming around, I'll do a Rosie the Riveter look with a wide scarf. A high ponytail with a chiffon scarf can be quite fetching, as well. Don't underestimate the benefit of a simple pomp-and-ponytail look, either. Just back-comb a bit to add height and throw in a flower or some barrettes.

As for product, I use Layrite to tame the wild fuzzies and an extra-hold hairspray for shellacing everything into place.

thank you both for the great ideas! I have been thinking about a snood, but was hesitant to take the plunge, will have to try it.

I do a ponytail with a swirly pomp (I'm not sure how to accurately describe this), but if it's really bad out, my ponytail begins to look really ratty.
