I figured everyone here at some point or another has dabbled in the art of special effects makeup for wounds and the likes. I personally have quite a few tips and tricks for doing this kind of work since I've done a lot of blood effects for film and even just casually for costumes and such.

Anyone have any projects their working on right now in terms of gore effects? I'm currently in the process of planning out (way early) my halloween costume. I was gonna do a 50's housewife turned zombie with half my face ripped off and rotting. Fun fun! The hardest part I think will be recreating a realistic jaw line with teeth, but I've been told that you can use white press on nails to emulate teeth.

It's never too early to plan for Halloween! I've seen a lot of makeup looks that use fake nails; they're a better effect than drawing them on. I'm usually too cheap to buy the marketed makeup though, so for zombie-esque peeling skin, I usually go for Elmer's glue and tissues/toilet paper. It's easy to tear, it's lighter, and peeling it off is always fun.

It's just Elmer's glue. The kind you give small children during craft time. Standard, boring white glue. I think they're $1 or so a bottle. I'm pretty sure there's no latex in it, just paste.

theres a lot of good youtube vidoes that address this.  Petrilude has a great video where he does the whole exposed teeth thing.  we did zombies for halloween last year, we attended our local "zombie crawl".  I just did the liquid latex, toilet paper thing for peeling skin and makeup to change the skin color and look sallow and dead, with really dark circles and smeared lipstick.  We were fairly fresh zombies ;)
