I don't know how to start this discussion honestly. I'm always curious when I look through all your photos and read your bios. No one really talks about what they do for a living. I guess I wonder this because I work such an obscure job that I always imagine all the PUG enthusiasts are well known celebrities, or powerful business women because you are all so beautiful.

I work in the offshore oilfield, 6 months a year I'm offshore on a barge or a boat and usually there aren't many girls. I wear steel toe boots, a hardhat, and pants. I never wear makeup and my hair is always in a ponytail. The other 6 months out of my year, I'm usually in a dress with full makeup and my hair done.

So I guess what I'm asking is what do you guys do for a living?

ok, seriously, i couldn't be a full-time stay at home mom (i tried and failed miserably!) so what you do everyday is difficult (and rewarding)... and the cosmetics gig, well, gotta share all the good info with us (plus you must enjoy the perks, right?)! don't underestimate your value just because it's not a "paying" job!! it's still hard work!

That's pretty awesome! I think it's great to educate people about sex. We've been taught to be so tight lipped (pun intended) and prude when it comes to that, so to get people to become more comfortable with themselves I'm sure is really rewarding!

I'm a nurse.. I love retro dresses but I keep the rest of my looks pretty modern
I'm a teacher.. currently gr.2. So I have to watch the sexiness, lol. And as I spend a lot of time on the floor (circle time and stuff), I don't dress up as often as I'd like. I also tend to hit the snooze button too often, so I don't even do hair/make up most days! But I feel so much better when I take a little time with my appearance, so next year I've decided to try to dress up at least once a week!

what an interesting thread! :)

I work in IT Consulting- I assist in project planning, recruitment, retention and resource management for a top 5 IT group here in Canada. I'm originally from Los Angeles (Santa Monica) California, and have lived in Canada since I immigrated here in November 2007.

I've mainly stayed in the IT area of employment in either Project Planning or Recruitment. It isn't terribly conservative, but I do keep my tattoos covered (one half sleeve on my right arm, one starting on my left arm). I generally wear a combination of PUG and other clothing pieces to work though I find a lot of the pug stuff can be hard for work because of the bust (I'm busty and find the brand brings that out and might not be best for my work place)

Because of where I live between May-September I try to wear every single pug item I own since it'll get too cold come November to wear them out.

No way!! We're both in IT recruitment!? Crazy! I guess it shouldn't come as a surprise to me, since I source and interview candidates all over the country for various clients, but regardless, you're someone who is basically in the same industry AND you're a fan of PUG! :)

yep! I sort of stumbled upon it about 8-9 years ago and I really really love it. my recruitment background is primarily in Microsoft ERP product suites (i.e. Dynamics AX and MS CRM). Because I made the move from a recruitment agency to the 'partner level' i.e. working for a Consulting Partner not an agency, I now recruit IT consultants for our local offices i.e. in Winnipeg and in Regina. I do take care of all of our MS AX recruitment as we are an MS Certified Gold Partner, but I also do 'generalist' IT recruiting i.e. Business Analysts, Systems Analysts, Project Managers.

it's really nice to be out of Agency recruiting- the money isn't as great since I don't work on commission and have no 'bonus' structure, BUT I enjoy the straight salary, and no longer have the high highs and the low lows. it's also nice and not as stressful to be attached to  a yearly target! what area of IT Recruitment are you in? it was actually a bit of a learning curve for me to go from super niche recruiting where I literally knew everyone (small market) to generalist where...I really didn't know anyone and had to re-learn terminology. It is fantastic though. I love working at the partner level, I could never go back to an agency.

it was also a bit hard to not interview people over the phone...but actually meet them! in my previous role I'd chat up people all over north america and maybe meet them at a yearly conference! but it's nice now being able to read facial expressions.

I'm going back to school for an HR degree, and will be taking an IT Recruitment Certification course here in the next few months.

Wow! I'm just part of a sourcing team, but we have several big name clients that we've worked with for an extended amount of time. We primarily focus in Oracle and SAP space, but we're branching out to Dynamics AX, .Net, etc. My lead (or bossman as I like to call him) has been in the IT industry for 35 years and started out working for IBM, so he knows the ins and outs of everything like no one's business.  I don't intend to stay in this industry forever, since (as I mentioned before) this is most definitely not what my degree is in, but for the time being, it's fun, flexible, and pays very well.

Who knows--maybe we'll get to work together sometime! I actually finished a campaign for Java Developers in Ontario several months back. :)

Speaking of Canada, how do you like it there? My loverboy and I have pondered on relocating to Canada in the future, but it seems like such a pipedream right now.

I really did fall into the IT recruitment industry, and it really is awesome I moved initially to Canada under a work permit for my prior employer (this was 5years ago)- they opened an office specifically for me as at the time I was married or in the process of getting married to a Canadian (we've since divorced and I am now as mentioned with a new employer and engaged to another Canadian)

I absolutely love working at the Partner level, the partner/consulting firm I work with is a Canadian top 100 employer with offices through western and eastern Canada, we are in the process of merging our US practice with an Oracle/People Soft Consulting group when this happens fully (later this year) we will be the largest Independent Oracle Partner in North America :)

um. Canada is different. I say this I came here with rose colored glasses- I have lived in the UK (london) and thought relocating to Canada would have been similar to that, I was also sort of disappointed with the US when I left (2007). However after living here 5 years, I'm quite eager to relocate back to the US I find where I live the winters are too harsh, the taxes too high. I pretty much had wrongly assumed every part of Canada was like Vancouver or Toronto (it isn't)

Dynamics AX is fantastic area, one I am very passionate about- I've been recruiting in it from it's original 'Damgaard' days and then when it was Axapta, to it's current name as Dynamics AX. I really like how SharePoint 2010 is the interface, and it's very user friendly as ERP's go- I also enjoy how it's still a niche area. :) I was one of the first North American recruiters for AX :) I run several AX user groups on Linked-In and attend the yearly Microsoft ERP Conference.

Me too! :)

Wow really interesting to find out what people do for work!

I live in the UK and I have worked in sales and customer service for many years, from retail to office environments. Most recently I have been an Account Manager at an IT distributor in the UK looking after around 50 customers. Ive worked in IT distribution in sales for the last few years, before that in sales for leadership development/management development and HR services.

Well you all know what the job market is like at the moment and after missing a couple of sales targets due to the climate I was let go from my job in June and have been out of work since, job hunting every single day!

If I had some money I would love to start a business from home selling my cupcakes as this is what I do as a hobby and would love. Maybe one day I will be able to get things going. Until then I need a new job nd have been looking at doing anything and everything just to get some money to pay the bills. I would love to do something different and interesting as I feel my career so far has been somewhat boring!!

I used to run an organic bakery, and I sold gourmet cupcakes. I closed it to take a job, due to the economy a couple years ago, but I'm working on reopening this year. I'd be happy to share my experiences with you.
