I went to a fancy dress last night and I tried the PUG look for the first time.... I watched countless YouTube videos and Tutorials from here on getting the make up and hair just right (I admit I let the side down in the hair department as I ran out of time), but alas I don't think the look works on me :(

I think it's too pale and I look like a witch!!!

Maybe you lovely ladies can tell me where I went wrong?…

The shapes are really flattering for all sorts of figures, and I think the pieces you picked work to that advantage. If you thought this particular ensemble was too pale, maybe you could try something more vibrantly colored to offset your delicate coloring? Jewel tones are especially nice for that...

It's funny they would say paler skin is a key part of the look. It seems like many pinup girls have rosy cheeks, regardless of skin tone. You should work with your natural skin tone, using colors of blush, eye make-up, etc. that are complimentary to your skin. With your complimentary colors, then you could try the pinup girl make-up techniques and styles. I think the best approach is not to worry about "correct" pinup girl colors, but the style of the make-up (like cat-eyes or fluttery lashes, for example). There is also no one specific look that is THE pinup girl look, so you can pick and choose which ideas are best for you. That goes for clothing, too. You can try wiggle dresses, swing dresses, somewhere in between. You can try different accessories, etc. I think there are many looks in the realm of pinup, so you will probably find something that works for you. Your first attempt wasn't bad, though. And you have great eyebrows for a pinup girl!

I am also very olive toned and I don't do the pale look I embrace my darker skin and found makeup to fit the needs to give me that fantastic look , I don't even do the bright red lips because it looks horrible with my skin color I look more like a hooker! If you just played around with make up tones and bright jewel tone fabrics as the other girls have already said then you honey have the cat in the bag ...oh and I think for your first time doing the PUG look you look fantastic!
I will have to rummage through my picture files and discs to see if I have any close ups on my face if not I will take some to post up on here for you.....I don't know if is is a good enough shot but in the vintage hair forum I posted a picture last night of a straight on shot maybe check that out and I will do my best to find others! I also honestly have to say that your everyday look is not to far off from a PUG look I think if you keep playing around with the look you'll find your groove so to speak

I totally agree with what the ladies have said below... any "look" has to be able to become your own, or it's not worth the price of admission! I try to work the PUG style in my own way - which happens to be with the vintage-inspired modern finds & thrift store goodies I can find, as opposed to buying PUG Couture (because I can't yet afford it). To me, it's about looking beautiful and being comfortable in your own skin, which is something I am just now coming into (at the ripe old age of 35)! Your "normal" make-up is great for you - just work it! Try maybe a vintage 'do if you are so inclined, and I agree with Brandi about the hair flowers... they add a lift to the 'do you do use. And if you like the form-fitting clothes of days past (or the current repros), do them too - just in colors more suitable to you. I'm lucky in that I can switch both hair & eye colors, and my skin tone is (usually) able to work with any combination that I want to pull off. The only I can't pull off is the pale look; and in my browsing around of the PUGs past, I've always found that a "rosy glow" is required, not a pale patch on the cheeks. Check out some of the tutes here on site, and some of the blogs/pics of Micheline, Angelique, and the other girls that are regular models on PUGC - they work the look their way, which may help you with an idea of where you want to go. And if you're ever feeling unconfident or unsure about something you want to rock, well then darling, here we are (as I have learned from the advice in the Unsupportive Family/Friends Discussion)!!! We're always happy to help!!

Loves & Hugs - Double O Jenn (oh, btw: looks like the hubby/bf is happy with your look!) And LOVE the shoes!

ok Karla this is my everyday make up for you I couldn't find any good pictures so I took these after i got ready for work, and sorry for the messy hair as I am not allowed to wear it down at work....all I use everyday is black pencil liner on the upper and lower rim of my eyes and a liquid or gel liner on the top with the wings that I have done since I was literally 12....simple but its very good for everyday....
