You'll Never Be Able To Bully Your Way Into Modeling For PUG - An Object Lesson.

Over here at PUG HQ, we always joke about all the stories we never get to tell, of the assorted craziness that comes with this job. Whether it's a client, a supplier, a model hopeful, or an artist's agent. Here's a story we feel needs to be told, and we're willing to risk appearing "unprofessional" by telling it.

Many long-time PUG fans and customers understand our policy on models. In short: We are not a model agency, nor do we use one to find our models. We are arbitrary and picky, and openly so.

We aren't just picky about looks. We care about your personality, your ethics, and the way you treat others, especially other women. If we feel that your personality isn't compatible with PUG's personality, we will not put you on our website.

This is our right, and I personally will never apologize for this.

Another thing many PUG fans understand is that I and my employees are honest, open, and opinionated. However, Micheline and I have noticed that when we express our opinions as independent persons on pages outside the PUG  facebook page, we are frequently gaslighted - told that by expressing a contrary opinion, we are being unprofessional and that our actions are "bad for business".

Well, we happen to disagree. If we are on a social networking site and have an opinion on something, we have just as much right to express it as anyone else.

As for anyone who hears our opinions and think we suck? OK. I'm not a big fan of that dude from American Apparel, subsequently I don't shop there. We're not for everyone!

Enjoy:

Part 2:

And because it feels somewhat relevant, I will include a video I did a few weeks back about dealing with online bullies:

I just woke up (I work nights), so I missed all the drama.  Coming from a profession where I have to put up with an inordinate amount of crap from people and take it like a Stepford wife, I appreciate your frankness and take-no-bullshit approach.  My work is vastly different from yours, but it's an estrogen-rich environment, and I see an awful lot of the same manipulation and bullying.  Kudos to you for standing up and saying it won't be tolerated, and for building an empire of strong women.

Well said ladies :)

If you are a model and you can't take rejection without a public dummy spit then you are not made for this business nor are you professional.

I sit here week after week going to commercial castings as a bight haired, tattooed plus size model and get rejected but do you see me bitching? I know I'm not what the company needs or wants to fit their needs and that another company will want me eventually. I try hard to break barriers but never perceive my industry as being something it's not.

Very well said. I don't think your being unprofessional at all. It's a public message of your personal boundaries. Bullying is wrong.

I personally am a girl lover, and I wish more ladies would be a "girls, girl". Chris Rock once said "If women could get along, they would rule the world." Well ladies, I'm with you and I want to uplift all the girls!

I really ..don't understand how so many .... "unstable" people like to pick fights with PUG. I've said this before and I'll say it again when people want to "call out" PUG on being unprofessional, rude, ect ect. I like them to also think of another company that can show up to VIVA and rattle off almost EVERY customers name standing in line off the top of their heads. PUG creates REAL relationships with its customers and models and I dont think any company that goes out of its way to develop sincere relationships like that with its customers and models is "rude, unprofessional"...and whatever ridiculous accusation certain people would like to throw out. I think a couple people feel that they are ENTITLED to ...ride on the coat tails of your success. If you can't handle hearing no and knowing that's its not personal (unless you know you lie about a bunch of stuff and act like a small emotionally damaged child) you shouldn't be modeling. It takes patience and most importantly it takes RESPECT. Keep on Rockin Ladies don't let the haters stop you from doin yo thang ;) <3

"Loving your curves, no matter what size you fit into, is kind of what we're all about." - Laura

This is why I shop PUG. It taught me self-confidence - how to be the person I am and say, "If you don't like it, that's just too fucking bad." I now know that the people who talk shit about others are just insecure. The realization of the PUG lifestyle came to fruition for me when I felt comfortable in my own skin...it wasn't just about having the clothes. There was an attitude change for me (I am woman, hear me roar!).

So, thank you, Laura and Micheline, for reaffirming what it's all about.

I have to say that I think this post is pretty amazing and very true.  I think that we have all been in the place when we’ve said something jokingly and or catty and really meant no harm, but you are right that it takes a certain person to apologize.  Also, though I do not know anybody personally, the PUG team does seem to be very tight and like you said having a group of women being so close is, unfortunately, a rare thing.  Often within larger groups of women, you do get the rumor spreading, the bashing and then the people who take things to another level just to start drama…a hate group of sorts.  I think this is why the PUG team is so special, you promote friendship and acceptance.

This is the first I have heard of the diet pill situation, I’ve been out of the loop for a while (lots of great changes going on), and the thought of somebody pushing diet pills makes me sick.  I completely believe in being healthy, heart healthy, mind healthy and physically healthy.  I personally have been working on “happy healthy”, accepting and loving who I am but also being the healthiest person I can be.  So, thank you for promoting self-acceptance.

PUG, thank you.  Not only for the awesome clothing, but also for being real.
