I can NOT be the only person having technical difficulties when it comes the these necessary nuisances. I am having a hellacious time trying to find tea-length petticoats for some of my summer dresses that just need a little extra "Oomph". :( All the ones I've seen have been "booty dusters" as my Nana calls them, or really expensive. Can ya'll recommend where a girl can find some "appropriate" petticoats at decent prices?

Please and Thank You,

Vickie Mesa :)

I just listed a lovely blue, *super* floofy one in the Swap/Sell group, if you're interested :)

http://www.princessratbag.com/store/pc/skirts-c45.htm is where I got mine from, it's super fluffy and soft, yet robust. I've used it for shoots in the ocean and it's come out intact. It's good bc you can wear it high waist or below the hip and it still looks amazing.

If your hand with a sewing machine there's allot of helpful sites online.

This is Powderpuff Boutique in Australia. All items are fabulous quality. Large selection of colours! http://powderpuffboutique.bigcartel.com/products?page=6

As a vintage stickler, I was so delighted to find a U.S. company that- incredibly- has been around since crinolines were in their 1950's heyday and therefore uses the same equipment, patterns etc. (An unheard-of resource!) And they have had a chance to work all the bugs out of the design in more than 50 years, so you will not find a rough edge, scratchiness, etc. They also support the skirt shape better than chiffon one that might seem to have an appealing fluffy edge but are not your best bet for the overall look.

Nowadays they create petticoats for the square dance community (haha! trust me- you do not want any of those, and they make LOTS of choices, so you need advice to get the right style for a vintage type look!) but they still have their original 50's style that gives you the length you want for a vintage look. That would be about 29" from waist to finished hem so if you wore your skirt 28" you'd get 1 inch shwing at the bottom. They have many lengths, sizes and colors in their 50's style crinoline/ petticoat.

And here is the best part! Since all they do is make crinolines, they are able to make them for a GREAT price! You can get one from: wt.ashleyw@gmail.com.

Sorry, no etsy shop! But Ashley has pics she can send you (see her email address above). She can tell you about her own experience comparing the resulting skirt shapes with different types of crinolines- she owns a several types and is a vintage stylist. Myself, I love anything authentic and I also like the edge of this type- it has a bound edge which I think looks really cute when it shows and that I also think looks more chic than the "chiffon" (and I use that term loosely) styles, the edge of which to me looks a bit cheesy. -Katherine

Hi Vickie-

Actually, I think I can answer this one!  I know the perfect person for petticoats, pettiskirts--whatever you need or can dream up, she can make.  Her name is Dawn and you can find her etsy shop here:

http://www.etsy.com/shop/DawnsAtelier

She is so easy to communicate with and does first rate work.  I'm not sure what price range you're looking at, but since she makes everything to order I'm sure you could discuss your budget with her before ordering.

Hope that helps!

I got mine from ebay at $25 each.  That was the best deal I could find.  Be aware that most of them say they are for country western dancing or some such thing.  That threw me at first, but it works out in the end and my PUG dresses look AWESOME with that little extra oomph!

I recently had this problem as well! I went on Sears.com and found a black knee length petticoat shipped for $25. Hope this helps.

Petticoats Dance Fashion sell heaps of different styles and colours.  Best selection ever !

I buy mine at PettiSkirtStyle.com  Every color and size and length you can think of  Tea Length Petticoats are my favorite. I like below the knee, not the short ones. :} Classy
