Hi everyone!  I'm going to my first Viva Las Vegas this year!  I'm super excited.  I can't wait to shop and drool over everyone's clothes.  I was wondering if any of you have been to VLV?  Any advice for a first timer?  What to wear (I plan on changing a couple times a day haha)?  What to do?  I still have to come up with some outfits for hubby.  So far he has 2 vintage shirts and a fedora.  ;-)  I already decided I may have to fly Southwest - they let you check 3 bags for free and I may need one just for crinolines.  Hehe.

When is it? I'd love to go, but I don't know anything about it... Is there any of the LA ladies going that would like to split on travel expenses for driving out there??

Its always Easter weekend.  Its a Rockabilly convention more or less.  Dancing all night.  50's car show.  Burlesque shows.  Fashion shows.  SHOPPING.  Google it.  :-)  Its held at the Orleans Wed-Easter Sunday.

Thank you! I will google it... sounds like tons of fun!

2013 is my first time as well! I'm heading over from Australia!

YAY TEER!!!  <3

So much yay!!!

So jealous! We're so isolated here out in Oz!

I'm mainly going for my 30th Birthday but it just happens to work out perfectly in time for Viva!

Woohoo!

WOO-HOO!!!!

Teer, Will you be working the PUG booth?

I have my reservations made for VLV next year, just have to wait till closer to the date to figure out all the little details.

Will you be staying at the Orleans? I find it easier when we stay at the Orleans as opposed to the other hotels. But regardless, here is my advice:

1) Bring 2 outfits for everyday (even if you wont wear them all, you need options!) I always pack a daytime outfit and then something fancier for the night time. Anything more than that, you probably won't wear. And you want to leave room in your suitcase for what you plan on buying. I know you imagine changing 4 times a day, but with all the events and bands playing, you wont have time.

2)Plan shoes! I ALWAYS bring flats, because you end up doing alot of walking. I plan about 5 pairs of shoes, all things that I can reuse for each outfit if need be.

3)Bring CASH for the vendors, and a measuring tape. I know I look nuts taking the measurements on certain items at the vendors, but there arent really dressing rooms, and if you know your measurments, it makes it easier when you are trying to pick up vintage items with no size tags (also Vintage sizes were different)

4)Swimsuit!! For the Tiki Pool Party. Oh and try to get there around the time it starts. This past year, it was packed and alot of people came late, and couldn't get in.

5)Plan your hair- If you're like me (incredibly anal with my hair), you want to plan ahead of time what your hairstyles will be for each outfit. I will turn a day time hair look to a night time look very easily, and it saves on time, hair products, etc. Also, if you're like me, and you curl your hair, you need to think out a curling method and bring what you need for that. OR, do what my girlfriends and I do: We each bring one thing, so we all don't have to pack that item. For example: One of us brings a straightener, the other brings a curling iron, the other brings hot rollers, etc. This way we have everything we need!

6)Sunblock! and if you are pale like I am, a parasol. The car show gets HOTTTTT.

7) Get the brochure of events, and plan what you want to do. There are alot of things that overlap, and you really need a game plan sometimes, or you'll miss something you really wanted to do. PLUS, if something is early, you may want to plan ahead so you're not hungover or sleeping in.

8) SNAG WHAT YOU FIND: if you find something you love at a vendor, buy it right away. It will not be there when you decide to go back for it. I am STILL mad that I didn't snag a mint green nylon scarf (ugh!).

9)Viva Shirts sell fast, so if you want one of them, you should probably buy it right away. Some styles are really nice!

10)Bring the following with you (trust me, you or someone else will need them!) Extra hairspray, blister bandaids, safety pins, extra bobby pins and a camera.

11) Get to the events early....some are first come first serve.

And I think thats all I have lol. Its alot, but this is what I have learned from my Viva experiences. The first year was trial and error and I have learned what to expect and do differently :) Have fun and I'll possibly see you there!
