Hey guys! Nina here. I'm one of those paleo eaters, and I thought I'd ask what kind of eating style everyone else does? Vegetarians, vegans, low calorie, juicers, ect. We're all different, and some things work on some people and some other things work on others. I think it's important to know what works best for you so you can lead a happy healthy life!

Here's some history on me and why my style works for me.

After losing 60lbs on Atkins back in 2003, I kept on a low-carb plan. Basically, I don't eat bread or sugar or potatoes unless it's a special occasion. This has allowed me to have some fun sometimes without gaining all the weight back. On a regular day, I eat lots of salad vegetables, a little bit of meat, usually fish, some cheese, nuts, and perhaps beans or legumes. For fruit, I usually opt for strawberries and blueberries, which have lots of fiber and less sugar than other fruits.

That's just what works for me! I find that when I go off my plan for too long (ie, go on vacation...) I end up feeling kinda blah. Carbs just make me feel gross.

So what's your food-style?

I've been doing this since 2003, so about 9 years now.

Atkins is actually a pretty good way of kick-starting your weight loss (if you're looking to lose weight) and it definitely helped me. I lost about 40lbs in the first few months, and another 20 over a longer period of time. When you do the first 2 weeks of Atkins it's really restrictive, but after that you start adding more things like berries and nuts. I basically just kept up with that sort of eating, and it's worked ever since. I always feel really healthy, my blood tests are all great and even my asthma has gotten better!

Oh, and most importantly: I AM NEVER HUNGRY. When you eat this way, you're not restricting your calories. That's important to me, because calorie restriction has NEVER worked for me.

No, I do my own workout. I've always enjoyed running so I do 5k at the gym (can't run outside, asthma..) and free weights.

Oh man.. I bought kale chips, once. I don't know if it's because I bought them rather than made them but they were gross. :( Probably would taste better if they were homemade.

I also read The China Study, and it changed my life!  I was already a vegetarian, but I was eating a lot of dairy.  And... I'm still not adhering to the diet 100% of the time... nobody is perfect ;)

Even with that said, I highly recommend the wfpb diet.  Since I began I have more energy, sleep better, my skin is more radiant, and I could go on and on. It is a big step, but worth it.

This is how I eat too. I'm a believer in kale power too. ;)

For the last eleven years I have lived in cities where I do not need a car so I ride my bike or walk everywhere so I get my exercise with my daily routine. Before I lived in Chicago/New Orleans I drove everywhere and was a size fourteen. Now I am a size six. No matter what I tell myself I am not a gym girl or exercise routine person. The other thing that has made me very aware of what I put in my body is that I cook 95% of my meals at home from scratch now. I can tell if it was a week of friends being in town because I will feel a bit icky from eating out so much. I guess my two simple suggestions is make your exercising simple and be more conscience of what you eat not matter what you follow.

I, like Caryn, no NOT diet. I just can't. And I certainly don't eat as healthily as anyone here (feeling a bit guilty, actually!), but I do exercise quite a bit.

I go to personal training twice a week; it costs me a small fortune, but I've come to a point where I HAVE to look after my body. I try to go to the gym in addition to that - sometimes things (mostly work and exhaustion) get in the way!

Having said that, I'm a terrible eater! I used to eat utter crap every day, but I've managed to limit it a little. I eat pretty good home-cooked main meals (my partner and I now limit take-away to once a week) but I'm trying to find ways of including more greens (yuck) that I will actually eat (e.g. green beans with a little low-fat fetta sprinkled on top). I'm a terrible snacker - chocolate, cake, lollies and sometimes chips. I've swapped some of the bad snacks for good ones, and being too busy to snack at work some days also helps, but I'm not too worried, as I'm quite happy with my wieght (if only that last lower-ab flab would shift!) and now just want to keep gradually improving the snacking to feel healthier.

Hi All!

I'm liking what everyone is contributing. I have tried just about every "diet" under the sun and non of them worked long term. It wasn't until a year or two ago when I started to become really interested in our food supply and clean eating and I started reading books. I started with "Skinny Bitch" which was somewhat shocking, but my favorite has been "Plan D" by Dee Mcafree (she lost 100+ pounds in about a year just by cutting out processed food!). Anyway, Dee is a chemist and really delved into our food's makeup and it was shocking to say the least. I can't say I've lost weight (yet), but I've found myself gravitating toward more clean eating ever since I read Dee's book.

Earlier this year I tried the HCG plan and while I lost a few pounds I realized the bigger reward was the detox and after 6 weeks I no longer craved fast food or most junk food. In fact, now when I eat most fast food or junk food my digestive system becomes VERY unhappy. After completing one round of HCG I've found myself more easily subconsciously watching my portion control; it's still not perfect, but I figure one step at a time in the right direction is better than trying to accomplish it all at once!

I do try to exercise at least 3 times a week. I do have a gym membership and an eliptical at home; it's been a tad hard getting it in the last 6 months or so because work has been insane. The work stuff is settling down a bit now though so I'm looking to get back on a more set routine now.

I'm always on the lookout to try new recipes especially to give my chicken recipe rotation more variety!

Hey Nina,

A different diet does indeed work for different people - like drugs don't affect us the same, or food allergens.
I'm a non-processed high-carb no-grain vegan. I don't eat meat, dairy, eggs, honey or anything from an animal - I'm lactose intolerant and meat doesn't do my bowels any good, usually making me feel sick and sluggish.
I don't eat grains, like in paleo because I'm gluten intolerant, and just doesn't process well in my body. I stay away from highly-processed foods because of obvious reasons.
I do not touch fake meats, tofu or fake cheeses and yoghurts. The most processed foods I eat are organic tamari sauce and almond milk, and fruit sorbet.
I eat much like a raw foodist/fruitarian, but with some cooked food (usually dinner). I get most of my calories from fruits, with some nuts and seeds, and heaps of veggies. I make a big use of herbs and spices. It's a simpler way to live and eat, I don't take hours to prepare food, or clean up after it.  :)

I used to be a gym rat, but it actually damaged by body more than doing good. Now I go to a Pilates Studio - it's awesome.  Would probably like to take up some yoga too.

Hi

I'm on a low-carb high protein diet. I started in january weighed 202 ponds back then and now I'm at 160. I find it's the best diet I have tried. I get to eat a lot, and it taste so good. I mostly eat salads with my protein if I don't have a workout then I add som slow carbs like brown rice, jams or beans. But I belive you can achieve any goal you set for you'r self if you finde what you like and just stick to it.

I'm starting weightwatchers but thinking about cutting some extra carbs. Like I do now and eat legumes instead of potato etc.
