Hello ladies

I am looking to purchase some new lipsticks in red and a neutral pink colour. I want them to be long wearing. I have super dry lips so I need something moisturing. I am baffled by choice. Do any of you beauties have any recommendations.

Thanks

Sarah

The red lipstick I use is Maybelline 24 hour Super Stay in Red Passion 510.

I literally cannot find one that lasts longer for me

and it doesn't transfer everywhere

Thanks to this board, I tried the L'Oreal Infallible line today and I am really happy with it! Like Rose said, the color choices aren't great, but if they have a color you like I would recommend it. It comes with a lip gloss/stain and a balm. DEFINITELY wait the full two minutes the directions say to wait between the two products so the stain gets in there. I put them on at 9:30 and my lips felt great until about 1:30, the color was still there (even after eating!), but they did feel a little dry. I simply re-applied the lip balm and they still look good at 3:00!

Hmm, I adore my matte's and I have dry lips. I just line my lips with a liner,  apply once, wait for it to dry, put on a second coat, and wait for that to dry, and then if my lips get dry I'll put on a lipgloss over that. But I adore texture and matte's have texture out the wazoo so.... Matte's also stain a little better so you'll still have some color if it does fade. But doing that, mine lasts around 8 hours with maybe one touchup (and I drink tea all day so that's a pretty decent lasting rate)

And I also use a brush for the first coat! brushes are awesome :)

I wouldn't necessarily say wrong, mattes are dry so it's not a perfect combination, but they can work if you put effort into them.

Your husband loves you....those are awesome brushes

I also really like the Covergirl Outlast, some of which I think they might be discontinuing/reformulating, as I've seen them on sale in a couple of different places, great if you want to pick them up cheap.

Sephora brand stuff is also really nice, especially for the price. I get a lot of their matte lipsticks (which tend to be longer lasting than other formulas), and they also make a great stain.

I've yet to find a lipstick that didn't dry out my lips, but I still want to wear red lips, so here's what I do:

1. Exfoliate.

2. Put on a layer of Burt's Bees natural lip balm.

3. Put on lipstick of choice.

I love MAC lipstick and own two of their reds: Viva Glam I and Ruby Woo. Both are lovely colours and long lasting, but are drying on me without doing the above routine.

Hi Sarah - If you have very dry lips (as do I) you want to avoid lipsticks that are marketed as very long lasting, because by their formulation they are very drying.  The secret to long lasting lipstick is in the application, as others have described here.  First exfoliate, then apply a light layer of foundation, then lip liner and fill in with lip liner as a base.  Apply two layers of lipstick ideally with a brush and blot with a tissue in-between. I have three great lipsticks that I wear all the time with my vintage and retro outfits and are great for a 40s/50s look.   ( I have fair skin with cool undertone so these colours may not suit those with golden skin tones).  These colours are by Revlon who have one of the best colour ranges out.  1.  #740 Certainly Red - this is a wonderful true red that is very flattering.  2. #028 Cherry Blossom - this also looks like cool deep red in the tube but goes on a little more pink toned.  3.  #440 Cherries in the Snow.  This colour is actually a re-issue of a vintage lipstick colour from the mid 1950s (google it, you might find the old ads).  This colour is close to the other two but slightly more pink again, a deep crimson.   It's surprising how few brands have a really good vintage-style red.  Chanel is too expensive, thank goodness for Revlon, it's around $22 here in Australia but only about $8 in the U.S.  These lipsticks work well for me and do not cause my lips to flake, and the colour stays true.

I sort of just scanned through all these responses while at work, so sorry if someone already mentioned this.  I used to wear Limecrime Velvetine's (red) all the time and it started really making my lips feel dry.

My best friend told me she'd switched to Stila's Stay All Day Liquid Lip Color in Beso and I haven't used anything since.  It dries your lips our way less than Limecrime and I actually prefer the color.  I also think there might be a bit more in the tube.  Just thought I'd share. : )

I use Mary Kay. I wear a red lipstick throw a red lip gloss on top & I'm good to go. It lasts about 4 hours, but then I ate lunch so I had to reapply.
