I have lots of great retro/pin up dresses, but it's harder to find casual outfits for every day wear... I wear some of the staples, like the bandana updo and the cuffed jeans, and I have a few cute polka dot tops..but what do you like to wear for a casual daytime look? How about shoes that aren't high heels?

If I'm dressing casual I often wear a cotton day dress and flat shoes. If I'm not wearing a dress I'll do cigarette pants with a boat neck top and flats (very Audrey Hepburn). If I feel like doing my hair I do, otherwise it goes up in a scarf. :)

So far, I've got capris and vests, with Chucks if I'm driving anywhere.  I have a couple of the PUG jersey tops which I could wear with them now too, but I really don't like/like the look of flat shoes, plus we get a ton of rain in England so I'm also interested in responses to this question :)

A simple day time look for me is capri pants with a simple tank top and a cardigan with my flats or sometimes I will wear wedges. You could even wear a pencil skirt with a button up shirt and flats or even kitten heels(I do this look a lot as well!!)or try and find and or make a few simple circle skirts as those were a staple back then. Also with the circle skirts you could wear penny loafers or even pair of saddle shoes. Shirts and cardigans are always my go to, especially in the winter and it gets cold here but I can change it up and wear a halter top in the summer!

I live in my yoga pants otherwise (a sin, I know...but they are just SO COMFORTABLE)... Anywho, when I want to get the retro look, I wear skinny pants that mimic a cigarette pant and usually a tee or tank. Sometimes, I'll add a wide belt to it, and if there's a chill or possibility of chill, I'll use my sweater guards to hang a sweater off of my shoulders or I'll wear a bolero (especially for work, because our shoulders MUST NOT BE SEEN, lol). I have been collecting wedges, which are super comfortable for me, or my eight buck chucks ($8 replicas of Chuck Taylors that I don't feel guilty about wearing out within a month), or a mary jane styled shoe, or ballet flat. I have a comfy pencil skirt in a jersey/poly material that holds it's shape really well, but isn't very hot that I will wear instead of pants occasionally.

As for the hair & makeup: especially since I've been letting my hair grow & because it's been hotter than hell this summer, I have seemingly perfected the retro ponytail: I kitten roll my sides up, do a barrel roll in the front (I don't have actual bangs, so I have to do something with this part), and ponytail it. I'll do the same front, but put the back in a snood (which actually seems to lift my hair off of my neck and is really cooling). I also do big pin curls in the front and butterfly clip the back up. Usually on my days off, I have my hair set in pincurls/curlers (with a bandanna over it), and it works rather well. Makeup I usually keep simple - a little concealer where needed, mascara (always!) and I have the "movie star" chubby lip gloss pencil from e.l.f. ($1) that I wear (with or without a lip liner). A little powder to even it out, a little blush as needed, and that's it.

oh yoga pants...lol Theres a joke that is essentially a girl wearing her yoga pants and says "Did I just come from the gym or did I just wake up?  You'll never know" During the semester I go to the gym during my break form class, so all day I'm in gym clothes, half the day covered in sweat (eww) :(

just fyi, real Chucks are often pretty cheap.  We have an outlet store in Reno and my husband just got 2 pairs for $40.  But on their website a bunch of the classic ones are on sale for $35.  I have had mine for like 6 years and wear them a lot, they are only now starting to wear out.  It is often worth it to save/splurge a little more for better quality, since it'll save money in the long run.

jeans and a vintage T is my favorite look, cigarette pants with a boat neck or turtleneck (like Amber I dig the Audrey Hepburn look) is usually my winter option. I'll also wear pencil skirts but if I want them to look casual, I usually pair them with a T-shirt (Leopard pencil with my Betty Page T-shirt + leopard trim wedges + loose hair/hair in a bun is actually one of my favorite outfits) - okay yes I do love leopard,

I like wearing sundresses casually in the summer but summer here is kind of short :) You can usually make most dresses a little more casual by adding a cardigan.

As a rule you can make anything look vintage by adding a head scarf and wedges!

I usually wear wedges instead of flats because they're more comfortable for my feet but I've also got a pair of red Chucks (not Converse) with studs on them that are perfect for pairing with jeans for a little more of a less girly look :)

Usually for makeup if I want to look casual I'll just add a bit of eyeliner as it's nice without being dressy.

Lots of great ideas on this thread, I love it!

This was my attire for today after work, sorry my hair is sloppy and the background is a mess. I just got off working 6 days with no time to do anything but sleep! I just wanted to share what I was trying to explain earlier.

I like the cardigan look! =) That's something I hadn't tried before...are there certain stores that are best for finding nice, decent priced cardigans?

I find many at just plain department stores around me. I normally have to go to the women's department. I do get lucky every now and again at the vintage shops for actual vintage ones. They are a big thing around me in the fall because its still to warm for a jacket but to cold with bare arms.

Target has some really good cardigans, in a ton of colors.  I also get basic plain t-shirts there, both short and long sleeved, also in a ton of colors :)

Yes target is probably my number one place to go before I go anywhere else to find cardigans and the usually have cute tanks for summer!

Fantastic look!
