Ok ladies just curious what everyone thinks.....I buy alot of vintage clothes to mishmash with the pug but when I find something super cute that is to small for me I will take it home and modify it to fit me of fit my needs! Now when I first started in the pin up world I was horrified by cutting and basically mutilating an garment that was 50 or so years old, but today I have realized I will never find another one let alone one to fit me so I need to do it if I want it....I am an extra large kinda girl so vintage my size is hard to find.....I wanted to know do you girls feel it is okay to alter clothing or is it a pin up sin?

you go girl!

Me on the otherhand, I never buy things that are to small because they only make me sad. Instead I take as many pictures of the specific detail or a collar or whatever it was on the vintage garment that caught my eye. Im so used to finding fabulous "size 0" clothes that I instinctively start applying the inspiration the garnment gave me to something that I can make by my self.

On those rare rare rare occasions that I find something that is to big, I just go crazy with the sissors=)

Buying this to small makes me very sad as I have body image issues and have had them since I was a small child and alot of the times I will do exactly what you said you do and use the garment as inspiration I make aloft of my own vintage repos that way I can insure no one else has it and I know it will fit!
All my vintage finds are very simple alterations alot are just adding an inch of fabric here or there cause again im a plus size girl and my bazooms barley fit regular clothes let alone something that was ment for a bullet bra!!!! im an akward in between size so its difficult to find modern clothes that fit well let alone vintage clothes that half the time were hand made to begin withbecause of rationing and the war era! Ugh the tings I do to look pretty! Hahaha

Honey, I know what you mean! Tripple D cups are a blessing and a curse... I too, am a tall, healthy woman and it is hard to find true vintage that fits our curvacious frames. I don't know what women our size (shapley and sexy) were wearing back then. It seems that all the vintage clothing I find stops at 10-12.

Deloris, I think that plus sized ladies did sort of the same thing they do now- if they have something that fits and looks good, they wear it until it falls apart because you never know when you'll find something  else! Probably more so then, because there were fewer large ladies and at times fabric was scarce.

I think it's perfectly acceptable to alter any clothing, unless you're really set on selling it later, and even then with vintage a lot of clothes have been modified, so someone would still buy it. I have this gorgeous dress that's been sitting in my closet for years that will never fit me, and I really considered having it taken out, but I'm going to take it to my local vintage shop and hopefully get at least some store credit for some new PUG :) For the most part, I don't buy vintage clothing because it's hard to find in my size and often it's just as, if not more, expensive than reproduction clothes, but it's way more likely to fall apart.

I am lucky to have a local vintage shop that is actually very we'll priced versus the other one near me that up charge rediculasnes, so I don't mind modifying things (anymore) as my post tells you already! So im starting to modify and not feel bad anymore especially since everything at the vintage store is the only one there and I will never find it ever again so if it calls to me I buy it.....(if I can afford it!!!!!!)
