Hey ladies! As the title of this forum post suggests, I'm BADLY in need of help when it comes to doing pin-up hair. I've tried tutorials on everything from victory rolls to bumper bangs that I've found on DVD's and YouTube and I just can't seem to find anything that really works out for me. For some reason my hair seems resistant to curlers, either that or I'm doing it completely wrong.

So yes, I'm a bit of a NOOB in this sense. What I'm looking for (if any of you can help me out that is) are tutorials or tips that you first learned when you first started doing pinup style hair. I'm open to any styles too, rolls, curls, bangs, just as long as it's pinup'y, retro, vintage, rockabilly or anything in between!

I'm hoping to take some PUG product shots for a blog review this week so hopefully I'll have a style or two I can learn in the next couple of days to share and show off along with the outfits Thank in advance everyone!

Hugs!

Tahitia :)

Thanks Brandi! Just had a look and it's got so many great tips overall for the pinup look. Glad you found that. :)

First thing I ever learned how to do was kitten ears, they are very simple and all you need is hairspray and a few bobby pins.... think I originallt found a video for it on youtube, after that I would just play with my hair when I had free time until one day after probably a year it finally clicked and victory rolls became very easy, I looked at alof of pictures of simple house wife hair styles of the 1950s and early 1960s and would play with my hair till I got the look. Just keep playing with your hair!

Kitten ears eh? I hadn't thought of them before now. Thank you so much for the idea, I'm going to go look some tutorials up on YouTube right now :)

Your welcome for the idea and I hope you found some good tutorials on youtube!

Thank you Vickie, there are so many to choose from! How did we get by without YouTube, eh ;)

I tried hot rollers, pin curls, curling iron - nothing worked for me - finally I used my hair straightener to curl my hair.  I then pinned each ringlet up with a pin curl clip to "set" - once they were all cool (usually after I applied my make up) I sprayed then and took them down.  I just lightly brush them and I end up with kind of Betty Draper hair.  Here is a pic:

Thanks Amber, I think that`s a great idea. I`m going to  have to try that one for sure. Btw, you look so gorgeous! :)

Thanks doll!

I definitely agree, a fully curled head of hair is the easiest place to start. :)

It might sound gross but "dirty" or day old hair works the best for me. I also use on my wet hair " Big Hair, volume finishing cream" by Charles Worthington. My curls will last for days. Try a wet set. You have to make sure that its completely dry before you take the rollers out. Otherwise it will just be a waist of time. If you do a curling iron. Pin your curls Asap. let them completely cool.

Hope this was a little helpful

Thanks Nanette! That actually is good advice about the dirty hair, I have heard it before too, but I admit that sometimes (most of the time actually) before I try to do my hair in a pinup style I forget this advice and go and wash it before hand :(

I`ve got to stop doing that :) Thanks for the tips!

Use a texturising spray or dry shampoo to give your hair some texture before you try to do victory rolls or other complez hairstyles, it makes a world of difference.
