I've been a busy gal!

+ Pin Up Plus:  I purchased my first sewing machine!  My mom is visiting and she is teaching me how to sew, and the first project we accomplished was taking in the sides of this white cardigan to be more form-fitting:

I got the step-by-step tutorial from the Elegant Musings blog, here: http://blog.caseybrowndesigns.com/2009/12/how-to-refashion-a-cardig...

+ Pin Up Plus:  I finally ironed my Lauren (oops, that's actually the Harrison top!) top and put myself together for a photo:

I paired it with a lime green pencil skirt by Tulle, a black patent leather bow-tie belt (I added a hole to it to make it fit tighter around my waist and not my hips) and black ballet flats from Old Navy (with a bow tie on the toe that matched the belt -- fortunate coincidence!).

+ Pin Up Plus: I also learned how to sew button holes and sewed them on to a dress I've had for 2 years but don't wear that often because it has apron-like string ties that tie around the neck...didn't like it that way so I criss-crossed them over my shoulders and down my back -- much better!

Very cute! I need to learn how to sew really bad.  Right now my sewing machine sits in my bedroom collecting dust :(

I think that I will have to leave sewing to the professionals, and to crafty people like you! I love these pics of you. You are strikingly beautiful.

Looks great! I still suck at making button holes. I never could get them right. But I can insert a mean zipper <3

Thank you for the kind comments! I realized the link to the cardigan tutorial was not working, so I'll post it here: http://blog.caseybrowndesigns.com/2009/12/how-to-refashion-a-cardigan/
I realized that using a sewing machine is like learning to use any tool (even learning how to drive a car), it just takes step-by-step practice and it becomes less intimidating. It also helps to understand how it works (generally, not specifically). Then it simply becomes an extension of your mind, just like a paint brush to an artist or pen to a writer.
@Laura--I think zippers would be harder than button holes! :)

super cute, I love that green pencil skirt! I leave the sewing to my husband and my eight year old, she is taking sewing classes right now
