Above is a list of vintage Revlon lipsticks that are still sold today. Me and my friend Katie (who is a Marilyn Monroe expert) were just at the MAC release party for the New Marilyn Collection they have launched. She told me about the list and that Marilyn Monroe was noted for wearing Certainly Red and Blase Apricot which she wore in her final and unfinished film Somethings Gotta Give. Upon looking up these timeless shades I found a pretty recent ad that was a great nod to the 1952 release of their Fire and Icecollection! The left photo is Dorian Leigh photographed by Richard Avedon and the right is Jessica Biel shot by Mario Testino. I'm getting my hands on more of the Monroe Collection Thursday so stay tuned!

Here is Katies Video discussing the vintage shades of red!

Thank you so much for this Ashleeta! I just ordered Revlon's Moon Drops Moisture Creme in Blase Apricot on Amazon, as that color looked just divine on her in the bits of footage that were capture for Something's Got to Give.

I am so happy that the info I told you is so popular!! Here is another bit of information:

Most actresses including Marilyn wore more blue based red lipsticks. The reason being is the colored film used at the time (mostly Technicolor) picked up warm hues. The blue reds picked up a warmer, where if it was a warmer red to begin with it would look almost orange. Also Marilyn"s make up artist, Allan "Whitey" Snyder, reviled that he used a couple of different sades to make her famous pout. He over drew her lips at the top with a dark red liner, used a dark blue based in the corner of her lips and a warmer red in the middle. Followed by vaseline in the middle to make it shiny. Another fun fact, he actually used a red lip liner in the tear ducts of her eyes to make them look more white!

That is so interesting about the red lip liner! I might have to try that one out myself!
