My Size 24 Steel Boned Corset is Fully Closed

So Why Do I Measure Almost 26 Inches?

Fully Closed size 24 CS-411 (outer measurement)

Hello Blog Readers! I can’t tell you how many times I get emails or phone calls at Orchard Corset that ask that question. The short answer is the corset has thickness. When a size 24 corset is fully laced shut-your waist will be at 24 inches (inside of the corset)-not the outside of the corset.

Now if you take a piece of ribbon that is 24 inches long and can wrap that around your waist completely, it will measure 24 inches, as it is a very thin piece of ribbon. Your steel boned corset from Orchard Corset, however is crafted using several layers of high quality material and from 16-24 steel bones (in our double boned models).  Each of these layers and steel bones adds size, so when you run a tape measure around the outside of your closed corset it will measure 2-3 inches more than the size of the corset. The larger the corset the more the difference due to more fabric.

This question comes up more often with our more petite ladies who were wanting to go from their natural 25 or 26 inch waist down to say a 22 or 23 inch. Even if they are able to completely close a size 22 corset, their net loss with the corset on will be negligible to none at all. And for very small framed ladies with very little “fluff”, your underbust measurement might even be more when corseted, as you likely aren’t receiving any reduction there and the corset will add thickness. Your overall shape will certainly be much curvier (which is what a corset is designed to do). Your natural waist line will diminish over time if waist reduction from waist training is your desired goal (with patience and diligence in your waist training efforts).

Well, there you have it! Mystery solved! There is nothing wrong with your corset. If you still aren’t sure, measure one side (on the inside) at the smallest point and double it. So if you have a size 24 corset, the smallest part of one side should measure about 12 inches (there can be a variations of about a quarter inch either way). Let us know if there are burning questions out there we have left unanswered and we will do our best to answer them.

my underbust is usually an inch wider with a corset on actually , but I usually wear short corsets when I wear them at all. Note to the slender ladies... just choose a smaller corset... 26 inches down to 24 is kind of sad. I usually go for 16 or 18 depending on the mood, just train it in and you get the same curve as the ladies with more to love

that why we have sizing experts (like myself). We take your under bust, waist and upper hip measurements as well as torso length from under bust to upper hip and find you a corset that will fit you from the get go! www.orchardcorset.com

*and I'll admit that as a professional you know a ton more than me about corsets so perhaps at some point a professional sizing would indeed be the best way to go ;)

because I notice you're trying to help people with sizing a lot with these, some of the questions I got most when wearing and selling them were on the length of the waist, how the length of the corset effects the look, why back fat, and how the materials effect the results :)
