Working at the boutique, I get asked a lot about what shapewear works best. We also get women who come in and say, "These clothes are gorgeous but they would only look good on thin women." I never know if I should be offended or flattered by this comment because I am a plus size woman and I wear P.U.G. clothing all the time. Am I included in the "thin" category according to them or are they saying I look ridiculous in those clothes?
At 29 and 220 pounds, I am the biggest I've ever been and even though I'm working on losing the extra weight, I don't want to go around wearing a big plastic bag until do. It's time to face reality and work with I have right now. I've never felt as beautiful as I do when I wear Pinup Girl clothing! In my case though, the clothing isn't everything. I've got one word for you...UNDERGARMENTS! Most women who try on P.U.G. think it doesn't look good on them but really it's just that they aren't wearing the correct undergarments.
Fellow PUGster Georgina Horne has a few very interesting posts about bras and undergarments on her page and she inspired me to make my own since I'm always getting asked about it. Check out her posts here... http://www.pinupgirlstyle.com/profile/FullerFigureBust
I have always been insecure about my body and it took a lot of guts for me to post these pictures so please be nice. =)
Picture #1 is obviously only bra and panties, I would never dare to wear a form fitting dress with only these two items because I would be bulging everywhere. I understand some ladies have never worn body shapers and aren't used to the tightness so I suggest wearing high-waisted shaper shorts as in picture #2. Tuck it into your bra band so it doesn't roll down. Also, the shaper in picture #2 is more comfortable to wear all day and it slightly smooths out any bulges.
I recently discovered the Rago Extra Firm Shaping Girdle (picture #3) and at first I was skeptical because I thought it might ride up or roll down and I would have to keep tugging at it. This all changed when I tried it on and realized how amazing this thing is! It has an inner "power circle" and as you can see, it really pulls in the waist! It's surprisingly comfortable and flattens the tummy a bit.
When I have a special event or need a little extra cinching, I wear a corset as in picture #4. I wish it were longer to cover my whole belly but I might have to take a trip to What Katie Did for that. This corset is an old one and is very soft. I can bend in it and I don't feel like my eyes will pop out from the pressure but maybe I'm used to it. It does take time to get used to corsets but I LOVE the look so it's worth it for me. To protect my dresses from the metal busks and to smooth out the bumps and laces of the corset I wear a slip like in picture #5.
I know this seems a bit crazy but I really hope this helps and enlightens some of you. I know when I started learning some of these tricks they totally changed my life! These products work for me so if you all have something that works wonders for you, I'd like to know. If any of you have questions or comments, please let me know. I am always open to new ways of doing things. =)
