As some of you may know by now, I have put together a few meet up events here in the LA area over the last year and a half or so. It is just part of my nature to try to be an organizer. And in fact it is part of my professional training. But I digress. But I must admit that it is partly due to one very selfish reason that I put these things together.
As some of you may know by now, I have put together a few meet up events here in the LA area over the last year and a half or so. It is just part of my nature to try to be an organizer. And in fact it is part of my professional training. But I digress. But I must admit that it is partly due to one very selfish reason that I put these things together. And that is that I want to meet and connect as friends with other pinup women. None of the things I've put together have had big turn outs. But I would say that they have all been successful in their own way. So I guess I will keep on doing them.

So now we get to the most recent event. On Friday, April 11th the Jive Aces group was playing at the "oh so elegant" Cicada Club in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles. I knew that I wanted to be there. So I asked if other people were interested in joining me. More about that in a few lines. I also knew that I wanted to look my best. So I asked for some advice from PUG's Natasha Estrada about finding a makeup artist. She recommended Stephanie who does work at the Boutique. I made my appointment. I told Stephanie what I would be wearing and she went to work on me. She recommended that I go for a smokey and sultry makeup look. And, wow was she right. I must say that she is as interesting and as talented as she is beautiful! Here is a pic with me and Stephanie after she had finished:

It turns out that the first person I ever met through PUG Style was my (now) friend Nilay. She joined me at the Boutique for some shopping. And she bought the dress that she wore that night while I was having my makeover. We had contemplated going out for an early dinner before going to the Cicada. But due to traffic and other tiny snafus we just decided to get some snacks at the Club. And with our snacks we tried out some really tasty cocktails. I won't say that nothing says elegance like a woman holding a cocktail, but I will say that it feels that way. Here we are sitting at our little table with drinks at the ready.

We had not seen each other in 5 or 6 months. So we had so much to catch up on. But we were not just there to talk. We could have done that anywhere. We were also there to listen to and to dance to the band, The Jive Aces. These Brits are one happy bunch. And each time they perform at The Cicada they are joined by the daughter of the great singer, Louis Prima. Her name is Toni Elizabeth Prima. She has a powerful voice and it is so great to hear her sing some of her father's songs. I am sorry to say that I did not really get a good pic of her. But I did get a great pic of one of the Satin Dollz dancing up a storm. I also have a pic of the promoter of the Club, Mr Maxwell DeMille.

I think that I may as well post a few more pics of myself and Nilay. Hey, if you take them, then you might as well post them! And I think that both of us were looking quite good! First here are two close ups.

Now here is a pic taken of us with another PUG fun. She was so beautiful and so friendly. But I did not get her name. Does anyone know who she is?

Let me end showing you two full length shots taken outside the Cicada Club in front of some of the marvelous metal work. Yes, somehow during all of the dancing, the strap to my dress became loosened. But somehow with the geometrical metal patterns it all seems to go together.

It was a great evening. I am already trying to figure out the next time that I can make it to the Cicada. I know that we here in LA are so very lucky to have a supper club that is so evocative of those nightclubs from the Forties and Fifties. It is such a great place to dress up. It makes me so happy to be there. I am not sure if I will try to organize another such event there. But... if you are interested, let me know. Oh, most Cicada events are on Sunday nights. Once in awhile, they have Friday nights dances such as this one was. I do guarantee that if you go, and if you wear PUG, you will see sister PUG wearers there.

Time is so very precious. Why does it fly by so quickly? Why do the great times in life go by even quicker? Oh well, stuff happens. And a few weeks ago I had a glorious holiday in New Orleans.
Time is so very precious. Why does it fly by so quickly? Why do the great times in life go by even quicker? Oh well, stuff happens. And a few weeks ago I had a glorious holiday in New Orleans. This is the stuff that dreams are made of. A very long time ago my spouse and I decided that going on vacations are a very top priority for us in our lives. We have so many interests. And we have so many things that we love. A few months ago we decided that we had to go to New Orleans. Quite a few of our friends have visited NOLA and told us how great it is. We believed them. But we kept on going to other places. Finally, it was time to visit.

We figured that in January it would not be hot and not be muggy. It was perfect weather! We wanted to be able to partake in all of the wonderfulness of the city. But we did not want to have to deal with the craziness, the drunkenness or the crowds of Mardi Gras or the Jazz Fest. Again, it turned out that January was the perfect time for a visit.

There were a few things that we wanted to get from our visit: music, dancing, great food, history, culture and friendly people. We were not disappointed! Let me first talk about music and dancing. New Orleans has a public radio station, WWOZ, which mostly plays local music. And they publish a daily guide to all local music events. That was my bible! I used it to plan all of our musical adventures. Every night that we were there, we went to hear music. First of all let me talk about the Cajun and Zydeco music we heard. Those are both musics of the bayou regions of Louisiana. Cajuns are the white, French speaking inhabitants of Southwest LA. And Zydeco is music of the Creoles, the African Americans of that region. My spouse and I have been listening to, dancing to and loving the Cajun and Zydeco music for a very long time. Here in Southern California we have a few music festivals that feature this music every year. We went to three performances of bayou music while there. First of all we went to a Cajun Fais Do Do at Tipitinas feautring Bruce Daigrepont. He is a pure Cajun. And he plays with great energy.

http://brucedaigrepont.homestead.com/

Next we went to the Rock 'N Bowl.Yep, a combination bowling alley and nightclub. This was our night to hear zydeco. the club was packed and people from all over the world came to dance. We heard Chubby Carrier, a very roots oriented player. And danced up a storm.

http://www.rocknbowl.com/

http://www.chubbycarrier.com/

Finally we went to Frenchman Street an area of two blocks jammed packed with music clubs. We went to the DBA club and heard one of our favorite young Cajun groups, The Pineleaf Boys. They stir up traditional Cajun music with a good deal of Louisiana swamp pop into a potent gumbo mix.

http://http://www.pineleafboys.com

There were two groups that we particularly fell in love with during our NOLA vacation. They both play a traditional style New Orleans jazz mixed with gypsy jazz of the Forties, spiced up with the blues and modern sensibilities. Meschiya Lake and The Little Big Horns are totally tremendous. Ms. Lake is totally tattooed, totally beautiful and a totally awesome singer. She has a raw, yet supple voice that sounds as if it is coming from a singer from another dimension. I definitely recommend that everyone check her out. http://www.meschiyalake.com/http://

And then there was Chance Bushman and The Smoking Time Five. Bushman runs a dancing school in NO. He is a terrific dancer and he tap dances while he sings. The instrumentalists in this band are fantastic. They play a slightly more sophisticated take on New Orleans jazz. We saw them in an elegant hotel. And we also saw them doing a street performance. The venues were way different from each other but the musicians were great in both places. http://www.chancebushman.com/ http://www.smokingtimejazzclub.com/

I will tell you about one more musician who we love. His name is Kermit Ruffins. He is kind of like a hip, modern-day Louis Armstrong. He was featured in a few of the episodes of the Treme series which played on HBO. He plays at venues throughout New Orleans almost every night of the week. We saw him play at this weird sports bar. He had been obviously "enjoying himself" prior to his gig. So it was a bit sloppy. But it was still great to see him in person. https://www.basinstreetrecords.com/artists/kermit-ruffins

... oh my! It has been almost two weeks since I wrote anything on this entry. Maybe I had better just finish this thing up right now. So New Orleans has great food. The food of Louisiana is a melange of influences making for one very tasty cuisine. All of the meals we had there were good and most were great. The restaurant that wins the award for favorite was Bayonna. We had both dinner and lunch there. It is a bit pricey but it is worth every penny that you spend. Here is a snap of one of the dishes that we ordered.

http://www.bayona.com/

New Orleans is also a great place to shop. The Trashy Diva repro clothing brand is headquartered there. And they have a few boutiques there selling their stuff. I bought a dress that was more than half off and I bought a great set of lingerie. There are lots of cute boutiques and second hand stores in the French Quarter. Check out this great sign in one shop window.

NOLA has some great museums, interesting old homes and lots of other places which give one a taste of the history and culture there. I think that I will just tell you that you must go there yourself to find all of this out. But I must tell you about one more very interesting piece of info. New Orleans is home to many amazing old cemeteries. And one of the cemeteries has the second most visited grave site in all of the US. In the St louis Cemetery #1 is the grave of the Voodoo Queen of New Orleans, Marie Laveau. She was an amazing woman who lived in the mid 1800s. Her story is quite remarkable. I urge you to check her out sometime. Here is a pic I took of her gravesite.

I could tell you lots more stories and I could share more pics with you. But that will have to wait. Maybe I can save some for the next So Cal Meet Up. Anyway, this was my first trip to New Orleans but it won't be my last. There is so much to do there. And I must say, there is so much of interest to us pinup girls. As they say down there, "I guarantee that you will pass a good time".
...FRIENDS FOR LIFE!tag:www.pinupgirlstyle.com,2013-12-26:6504043:BlogPost:3000132013-12-26T03:02:21.000ZAoife 24Khttp://www.pinupgirlstyle.com/profile/AoifeKenny

I started writing this blog about a week before Christmas. But I was just too busy to finish it. It is now Christmas night and the main part of my Christmas activities are over. Since one of the best things about Christmas is connecting with friends and family, I think that today is the day to post this.

Usually my blog posts are prompted because I have had some interesting adventures while wearing my PUG clothing. But not this time. This post is prompted by a comment that Tahitia Belle Fille made to my post asking what people bought at this year's Black Friday Sale. What she said is totally wonderful and totally true. I will quote it now:"On what other clothing retail websites can you go shopping for outfits and walk away with amazing friend for life too?"

Well, like most of us here, I love to shop. Of course I love to shop in person the most. But I also like shopping online. And I have been to many clothing websites. I have posted some pics to their fan pages. And that is nice. But no clothing site has such a place like PUG Style. It is not always active, but when it is there is loads of information, lots of photos and tons of fun! I know that the site has been a bit quiet recently, but I think that is because of the Holidays.

I have made such wonderful friendships by being here. I have gotten to meet so many wonderful people as a result of being on this site. And I have gained real life friends who live in faraway places, that hopefully I will also get to meet someday. What a very special thing! I don't want to sound too big headed, but where else could I meet so many amazingly beautiful people? NOWHERE ELSE!

The beauty of the whole PUG thing is that it is so celebratory. It is not about women who are beautiful by birth, although that is not a negative by any means. But it is much more about discovering ones beauty and celebrating taking what you were handed by nature, developing it and then celebrating it.

Now I'd like to celebrate all the "Friends For Life" I have made here. Cheers!
Tea For Threetag:www.pinupgirlstyle.com,2013-11-19:6504043:BlogPost:2961182013-11-19T01:16:25.000ZAoife 24Khttp://www.pinupgirlstyle.com/profile/AoifeKenny

Hello everybody! I hope that your November is progressing well. The holidays are coming upon us so very fast. Will I be ready on time? Will I get some chances to show off some of my new PUG clothing during the holidays? Will we get snow here in Los Angeles for Christmas? I do know the answers to some of those questions. And there is one other thing that I know. I will take the chance to go out for afternoon whenever I get the chance!

I used to call my Flickr page "Aoife Takes Tea". That was a while back. But I still absolutely adore going out for afternoon tea. It is such a wonderful way to spend an afternoon. As a rule afternoon tea consists of a few essentials: tea, of course, finger sandwiches, scones with clotted cream and a selection of small sweets. It is usually taken leisurely. Unlike most afternoon activities, it is usually an occasion for dressing up. Hats are one frequent accessory. And it is a very good time for getting together with friends to share stories, gossip a bit, give moral support to each other and of course it is always fun to talk about shopping!

I think that this is the third or fourth time that I have organized a tea meet up with some of the dollies from the So Cal PUG community. I have not had any big turnouts for these events. But in my opinion they have always turned out well. The company has always been great and I have made new friendships and strengthened ones I'd already developed.

Once again, I had the tea at the Chado Tea Room In Pasadena. I have selected this tea room because the food is tasty, the tea selection is huge and the price is quite inexpensive compared to most tea rooms. Maybe next time I may try someplace else, but so far, Chado has been a perfect meeting place. This time there were three of us who were able to make it: myself, Desilu and Vivian Rogers. We have a number of things in common, and of course lots of differences which make us unique. But what we all specifically share is membership in this PUG Style group. I have met such wonderful women here!

OK, too much writing and not enough photos. So here goes. The first is of Vivian and Desilu. They are holding the tea pots in which their teas were served. Note the cute little devices which hold the lids of the tea pots in place. Vivian is wearing a dress that she literally just purchased at the PUG Boutique before meeting us at the tea room. Desilu is wearing a selection of vintage items. Maybe she might post about what she was going to wear. That is her story to tell. Both of them looked so darling! And then, of course, is a photo of me. I am wearing a dress that I bought at the PUG Boutique when I organized a meet up at the Boutique which also included the visit to the What Katie Did store. I must admit, I don't remember the name of this dress. But that does not make me love it any less. Oh, you may not notice it in the photo by myself but I am wearing a brown fascinator I picked up at a hat shop in Long Beach, CA. Finally in this grouping is a photo of the three of us taken by our waiter.

After sitting, eating, drinking and talking for three hours we ended our little tea party. But as Desilu will tell you, I am always wanting to take pics. So I found a picturesque doorway and decided that we had to have out photos taken there. Now you can see how cute Desilu's outfit was. And I wanted to show off my spectacularly beautiful shawl that was given to me as a PUG Pal gift by my PUG sister, Jessica Maria Montalvo-Anderson.

And one more pic. After I dropped off Desilu I had to pick up dinner to take home. I made a slight detour and drove by a bakery. I must admit, that I have never been in the bakery. I do allow myself treats, such as what I had at the tea. But I try not to keep sweets around the house, just too tempting. But I thought that the sign would make the perfect backdrop for the photo. So you have me standing in front of the Pin Up Cakes bakery.

I had an absolutely wonderful day! Desilu and I have been able to get together every couple of months after first meeting about a year ago. The time always passes so quickly when we are together. This was the first time that Desilu or myself had met Vivian. It won't be the last! Vivian is an incredibly complex, interesting and fun woman. Oh I forgot to mention one more thing. She is SO BEAUTIFUL! I will add one little ad note. We were supposed to be joined by one more PUG sister, but due to a family emergency she was unable to attend. We missed you dear one.

I sometimes get a little disappointed before these meet ups that I've organized. They've never had the attendance that I hope for. But every event that I'd set up through PUG Style has turned out well because of the people who have attended. I have made some incredible friendships through these events. So I guess that I will keep on planning them every so often. Thanks Desilu and Vivian for making this one so very special!
You look like Marilyn Monroetag:www.pinupgirlstyle.com,2013-10-28:6504043:BlogPost:2917832013-10-28T04:00:00.000ZAoife 24Khttp://www.pinupgirlstyle.com/profile/AoifeKenny

Once again, I have decided that I might as well do some more self promotion and do another blog post. I have nothing to promote really. But I just like to share with my peers. And my important peers are PUGsters. So here goes.

Once again, I have decided that I might as well do some more self promotion and do another blog post. I have nothing to promote really. But I just like to share with my peers. And my important peers are PUGsters. So here goes.

There is no rhyme or reason to when I shop. I do always like to look for a bargain. So when PUG's website has a special sale I usually try to take advantage of it and buy myself a piece of two. Sometimes, I am buying for a special occasion. Sometimes I am buying an item because I already have one in a different color or pattern. And sometimes I just make a guess and think that something might work for me.

So back in early September I took advantage of an online sale and one of the items I bought was the Jessica Wiggle Dress in red. I looked at the measurements of the dress and the "stretch factor" and picked a dress in large size. i usually buy my things in XL, but I have found that with some of PUG's dresses I can get into a large. And when I want figure hugging appeal, the smaller size is sure to fit the bill.

This was one of those times when I just bought a dress without any special occasion at which to wear it. But within a few weeks I got an invitation in the mail for a very special night at the Huntington Library and Gardens. The Huntington is an amazing museum, library and botanical garden located in San Marino, California just next door to Pasadena. I have been going there since I was a poor college student. it was the perfect place to get some free culture and relaxation. It is no longer free to get entry. So for a number of years my spouse and I have been members. And in the last couple of years we bumped up our membership so that we could be invited to special openings, events and early entry. So back to the story, the Library was having a special evening party with lots of food and drink. It was intended to show off their newish Chinese Gardens and as a fund raiser to gather more money to expand the Chinese section. The invitation suggested "cocktail appropriate" clothing. And I knew exactly what to wear.

Before arriving at the Huntington I stopped at an intersection in San Marino where there is a picturesque clock tower. I thought that I might get some good shots of myself with the clock in the background. I pulled out my tripod out of my car, set my camera's timer and took some shots hoping that they turn out nicely. Things looked pretty good when I looked in the viewfinder. But something happened that has never happened to me before. A guy driving by pulled to the side, rolled down his car window and then took a photo of me! That was kind of weird, but kind of cool at the same time! Here is a clock tower pic:

I drove the few blocks to the entrance to the Huntington. Since it was a special event for upper level members only there was a guard at the gate. When I drove up to him and rolled down the window, I told him that I was there for the special party. Then he gave me one of the best compliments that I have even received. He said "Has anyone ever told you that you really look like Marilyn Monroe?" Well no one had before that. But it made my day.

So I have a few pics that I had taken while there. All of them were taken by other party attendees. And one was taken by a photographer there which I have scanned. Why don't I start with the professional one.

This was a really fun event. There were lots of food stations serving all sorts of wonderful Chinese food. The San Gabriel Valley area of LA has a huge Chinese population. And some of the best Chinese restaurants in the world are located nearby to the Huntington. So although the food was mostly of an appetizer nature, it was delicious. And there was lots to drink. And I have to admit it, I have a weakness for bubbly wine. And so I had about three glasses of the wonderful Spanish sparkling wine they were serving. Luckily I was eating enough and walking around the grounds so that hopefully I burned off some of the alcohol before I had to drive to my next activity. This pic was taken by a kind woman who was taking photos of her husband and mother. This turned out really well:

The mother of the photographer was complimenting my entire ensemble and was telling her daughter to make sure she got everything including my shoes. Well she did get a shot with my shoes but this one is better.

I think that I will post one more pic. Oh yes, this one will do nicely. This was taken at the entrance to the Chinese Garden right after the section with most of the food and drink. I guy was standing waiting for someone, maybe his wife, and I asked if he'd do me a favor and take a photo.

There is one very important pice of news that I have neglected to tell you yet. That is that the pashmina I am wearing was given to me by one of my PUGster sisters, Miss Venom Miss. I got this as a part of a gift she sent me from being in the PUG Pals group. I have told her directly and I have posted thanks in the group comments. But now it is time to do a site wide thanks. THANK YOU MISS VENOM MISS! I love this pashmina.

Well my dears, I think it is time to wrap up this post. I don't actually think that look much like Marilyn Monroe. But I do know that almost every time I wear Pin Up Girl Clothing I feel fabulous. And I feel that I could be hanging around with the glamour girls of the past and would probably fit in pretty well.
Sixty Means Sexytag:www.pinupgirlstyle.com,2013-10-15:6504043:BlogPost:2888642013-10-15T11:59:49.000ZAoife 24Khttp://www.pinupgirlstyle.com/profile/AoifeKenny

Well, yesterday I had my birthday. And the honest truth is that I turned sixty years old. I am not fooling. I guess that a combination of good genes and lots of hard work have kept me looking pretty good. I have not had any "work" done. But I do "work out" on an almost daily basis. My skin care regimen is pretty basic. I try to follow the mantra "moisturize, moisturize, moisturize". I have been primarily a vegetarian for more than 40 years. I have a profession that I love.
I always try to maintain a positive outlook on things. And I try to treat those around me with respect, kindness and lots of humor. And I have a wonderful spouse, family and friends who support me.

My mother died when she was just 62 years old. The last couple of years of her life she suffered from cancer. However she seemed to only get more beautiful the older she got. Maybe I have been blessed to have some of those magic beauty genes that my mom possessed.

I think that I might be neglecting to mention one very important ingredient to what makes me the person I am today. And that was deciding that I am a glamour queen, a pinup girl, a retro loving lady. Finding Pin Up Girl helped me achieve the look that I envisioned in my mind. I lived a very long time before I arrived at my current look. And in fact it was discovering vintage clothing in thrift stores that got me started on this journey. Of course my pinup clothing is not only from PUG. I also have actual vintage clothing and I have clothing from other repro manufacturers. But PUG makes up the majority of my pinup wardrobe. I love how it looks on me. And I love how well it is made. Oh, and I love that it is manufactured here in the USA. Besides the clothing, the second most important part of PUG is PUG Style. The friends that I have made here have inspired me, helped me and supported me to become the person I am.

A couple of months ago I bought myself an early birthday present, a photoshoot. I have done a few photoshoots before. The first one that I did convinced me that I had made the right decision about choosing the glamour gal look. I am not a paid model. I guess that would be obvious when I mentioned my age. I have paid for all of my photoshoots out of my own pocketbook. And they have been worth every penny that I have spent. All of my other photoshoots were done by photographers who specialize in pin up shoots. This time I just bought a package from Amazon Local Deals. That package was quite inexpensive. But I figured that there would be more money involved, and there was. So in fact this shoot cost me around the same amount as all of my other shoots. The photo studio was at a local mall. I had a good photographer and a very good makeup artist. But I think that I will just skip the name and location of the place. They get enough business without me mentioning them.

I decided that for this shoot I would be wearing only Pin UP Girl Clothing. As I would for any shoot, I brought more changes of clothes than I would actually wear. I came with ideas and then I asked for input from the photographer and the MUAH as to which outfits to wear. Let me start off with this purple number, the Erin Dress in plum. I like how it looks. I usually wear size XL in most of my PUG clothing. But I might have been able to go down one size. Anyway, here is the dress:

Next I will present a few photos of the dress that I absolutely fell in love with, the Micheline Dress in Tiffany Blue. This was a dress I bought from a seller on eBay. I love it so much that since then I have bought another during one of PUG's online sales. I have mentioned before how I was kind of afraid of wearing figure hugging clothing in the past. I am not afraid anymore!

I love how the following two pictures taken on this elegant couch came out:

I was not sure if I should do it, but I decided that I would try to do some pics with me wearing a PUG swimsuit. And I must admit that I liked the way that these turned out. I also bought this swimsuit via eBay. I had it in my closet for about a year. I never have had the nerve to wear it in public. Oh, since I bought it via eBay I am not sure exactly which PUG swimsuit this is. It might be an early version of the Marilyn. I am sure that someone out there will know.

And finally I will show you perhaps my favorite photo from the shoot. I am wearing the Micheline but of course it is an extreme close up. I love how it captured that special feeling I had at that moment a combination of playfulness and sexiness. I am very proud of this one. I hope that I am not sounding too vain.

Of course I have more photos from this shoot but I wanted to show you the ones that I thought were the very best. I am happy that I am at the point in my life so that I can spend money on myself in order to look my best. And that money allows me to do these shoots every once in awhile. And I guess that I just wanted to show that being sixty and being sexy are two words that can go together.

Thanks so much to all of you who have been supportive of me. I have tried to be open with you about who I am. Being sixty is not the only thing that makes me rather unique here. I will not talk about those other things this time. But if any of you want to know more about me, I certainly don't mind sharing my story with you. Just write me and ask. Again, thanks to all of you wonderful PUGsters. Thanks for helping me be the glamour girl I wanted to be.

Oh, just a quick note. I don't intend to take over the blog posts here. I have been posting a lot recently but I promise to pull back a little.

Sometimes life gives you little opportunities that you just have to take advantage of.
Sometimes life gives you little opportunities that you just have to take advantage of. I guess that most of you already know that when Sarah Silverman was at the Emmy Awards a couple of weeks ago she wore a Vamp Dress in black. Sarah can be hilariously funny. She is very attractive. And she is quite intelligent. Those are all qualities that I try to demonstrate in my daily life. So that just got me to thinking. And I came up with an idea. I would wear some of my vamp pieces and similar items while out on my little adventures and post the results to share with all of you dolls. I have three different sets of photos to share. And I must admit that I have at least one more vamp dress and one more vamp blouse that I did not wear for this little experiment. I did not want to let this drag out too long so I stopped at three different outfits.

I was a little cautious when I first started wearing Pin Up Girl Clothing. I knew that I wanted to wear clothes that evoked the golden glamour days of the mid century. But I did not really think that figure hugging clothing would work for me. I thought that it might be too "over the top". And I thought that maybe those clothes were meant to be worn by women much younger than me. My first few purchases of PUG were of slightly more conservative styles of clothing. But after a few months I just thought to myself: "You only live once, why not try to take things up a notch or two. Don't be afraid of trying to look sexy". So I took the plunge. And my blue vamp blouse was my first purchase in the figure hugging category.

I have posted pics of me wearing all of these outfits in the past, I think. But these are new pics all taken within the last couple of weeks. The first couple photos are of me wearing the Tiki Twist Dress in orange. In fact, I had mistakenly thought that it was part of the vamp line when I pulled it out for this little series. In fact it is cut quite similarly to the vamp style. Anyway I went to my favorite classy watering hole for a drink. OK, it was two. The location for this little outing was once again the bar at The Langham Hotel in Pasadena, California. It is such a beautiful place, so it is just a pleasure to spend time there. The first pic was taken by my waitress for the night. The second pic I took using my little mini tripod and the timer function on my camera.

For the next outing I chose my Vamp Dress in Zebra Stripes. I wore all black and white including my shoes and my handbag. But I did throw in just a couple of touches of red in my bangles and my hair accessory. I was using my mini tripod again when a kind young man volunteered to take some photos. They turned out to be totally tremendous. Initially I also had on a cropped black and white shrug. I wore that while I was out doing a bit of shopping. But when I went to have a drink I thought I should show a little more skin.

The very next day after I wore my white and black outfit, I had a chance to go and do some antique shopping. The antique mall I went to is built in an old orange processing factory. Southern California used to be filled with orange groves. That has no longer been the case for many years. But orange crate art is one of the types of items that are often sold in LA antique houses. I opted for a blouse and skirt since it was daytime. And I had a special reason to choose the color scheme. That reason was I wanted to wear my favorite hair ornament, a blue and white corset made by my PUG sister Brandi Shuey. So I have a full length photo of me and a close up of me wearing the ornament. I got a wonderful compliment about the piece. I will write about that in the "best compliment" topic.

I firmly believe that beauty originates from within. Intelligence, self confidence, humor and sexiness are also qualities that I believe that one develops on the inside first. Sarah Silverman prompted me to do this little series. But it is my inner growth and outward expression of it that allowed me show this side of myself. Thanks for letting me indulge in a bit of self introspection and outer displays of what thus resulted.
XxXx dIRect from Aoife 24K [srgi gru 0je Live NUde Girrrlllstag:www.pinupgirlstyle.com,2013-09-27:6504043:BlogPost:2816492013-09-27T00:17:52.000ZAoife 24Khttp://www.pinupgirlstyle.com/profile/AoifeKenny

Sorry about the long title for this post. But I wanted to give you a taste of what this will be about. So, first things first. I knew that I was going to have three days and nights completely to myself this past weekend. I dress vintage or repro vintage as much as humanly possible. I love my Pin Up Girl Clothing so much. It is so flattering. It makes me feel so wonderful when I wear it. So I decided that I would wear nothing but PUG during my adventures.

I made my weekend a three day affair by taking Friday off from work. I had some ideas in mind about what I might do. But then it came to me. I had purchased a deal from Amazon Local Deals for a photoshoot. So I decided to book that for early Friday afternoon. I will save my discussion about that experience until after I receive my photos. But I will say that I wore three outfits and each of them was a PUG outfit.

After the photoshoot I asked the Makeup Artist which of the dresses I wore for the shoot would she recommend that I wear while out and about. There was not doubt in her mind. She recommended that I wear the Michelline Dress in Tiffany Blue. This was a dress that I bought off of eBay. It cost me only $46 plus $7 in shipping. It was lightly used when I got it. But when I tried it on, I had only one thought which was "OMFG"! I could not believe how good it looked on me. The proofs of the photos that were taken of me wearing that dress during the shoot look amazing. But you will just have to wait to see those.

My photoshoot was in the city of West Covina, in the San Gabriel Valley part of L.A. There was one place that I was determined to go after that. It was to the What Katie Did store in Hollywood. It had been quite a few months since I had been there. I was so looking forward to seeing my friends, Michelle and Carrie, who work there. When I walked in I was surprised to see that it was none other than Katie of WKD. She brought out the corsolette that I had ordered, also one bullet bra and some bra pads. I asked her where "the girls" were. She told me that they had phoned her earlier in the week at her home in London and told her they were quitting. I was disappointed to hear they quit. They were so wonderful to me. But hopefully I will see them in the future. Hmm, maybe I will see them at the Cicada Club.

My next stop was the LA County Museum of Art. On Friday afternoons during the summer they have live jazz music. I did hear some music. But mostly I visited the galleries and checked out lots of early Twentieth Century art. I spent a few hours at the museum and had a very nice time.

So I guess you may be wanting to see some pictures of me wearing the Michelline Dress. Well here you go. They were both taken outside the museum beside a little amphitheater.

On Saturday the 17th I had arranged to have a Tea Party Meet Up of local PUGsters. A number of dolls were interested in attending and I got a good amount of positive RSVPs. But it ended up that only three of us were able to attend. Despite that, I think we all had a marvelous time. Besides myself the two other attendees were Dorthy Treasure and Nilay Engin. Dorthy and I met in my previous attempt to arrange a tea party. And Nilay and I have gotten together a few time before. I met each of them through this PUG Style site. And I have to tell you, they are both equally wonderful and both totally unique.

We met once again at the Chado Tea Room in Pasadena. They serve a traditional afternoon tea in a very nice environment. And to top it off they are quite reasonable. Afternoon tea is only about $20 per person. We spent a glorious two hours sipping our tea, eating our tea goodies and talking up a storm. Nilay talked about her belly dancing adventures and her recent return to visit her homeland of Turkey. Dorthy was happy to talk about her new job which is involved with the import and export of fine art. We talked about everything from the ballet to psychobilly and burlesque clubs. And me, well I always have plenty to say. In fact I talked a lot about my recent trips to music festivals in Seattle and Portland. And when it comes to PUGsters there is always talk about clothing, makeup and looking our best.

So once again, I am wearing another PUG outfit. It is the Havana Nights Dress in Warm Tone Cabana Stripes. I bought it online during one of PUG's online 20% off sales. I am wearing a vintage hat I'd just found that week at an antique store in Long Beach. The store is called Magnolia and Willow. I have bought quite a few of my PUg Pal gifts there. They have some incredibly low prices on some items. The hat cost only about $25. And the shoes I bought on sale at Nordstroms. I think they match the dress almost perfectly. Nilay is wearing the Heidi Dress in Red Rose Print. Dorthy is wearing a dress she ordered from a company called eShakti, a clothing manufacturer in India.

Here is a photo taken by our waiter of us just after we were served our tea goodies. The sandwiches are on the top plates, the scones on the middle plates and the sweets on the bottom plates. YUMMY!

And here are some pics of us in the doorway of a historic building just down the street from the tea room.

Nilay had to leave us after our round of picture taking. So Dorthy and I did a bit of shopping. We went to a really great store full of cards and nick nacks. And if you are one of the PUG Pals you may be getting one of the cards I purchased there. By the way the store is called Lula Mae and is located in Old Pasadena. I highly recommend it! Then we tried to visit some of the antique stores of Pasadena. But it was past 6 PM and all the stores were closed. So we ended up in South Pasadena at a cute boutique called Koi. I bought a vintage purse which I think totally matched the hat I was wearing.

Dorthy and I decided to stretch out the day into the night. We agreed to make a visit to my favorite hotel bar, the Langham Hotel in Pasadena. We had more great times just sharing stories while we sipped our cocktails. OK, the drinks are not cheap. But we are women who deserve to be treated well, even if we are treating ourselves. The Langham is just a wonderful place. And it is such a great place to take photographs. Here are just a few. We had so many kind people who volunteered to take our pictures. What a blessing! And I am only posting about a third of the best photos. I don't want to post too many. But I will be sending pics to both Dorthy and Nilay. Maybe they may post some that I have not posted. This was taken in the inner courtyard of the hotel.

This pic was taken on the Japanese Bridge on the grounds of the hotel.

I must give special thanks to Dorthy and Nilay for making our tea day such a great experience. And I will most certainly try to arrange another tea meet up sometime in the not too distant future.

So then I come to Sunday. I wore another dress that I bought off of eBay. That was the Neti Swing Dress. And that only cost me $37! I was on my own on Sunday. I made a shopping excursion to Nordstroms but did not buy anything. Then I decided to go to the Pasadena City Hall to take photos. If you look at some of the recent catalog photos of PUG clothing you will find some photos that were also taken there. While I was there, at least three other groups of people were taking pics including at least one marriage party. Here are a couple that I took using my trusty tripod and timer.

And finally a photo taken by my waiter at the El Cholo Restaurant in Paseo Pasadena. Yes, and if you must know, I am indeed drinking a margarita.

Five Nights Of Fun (night five AKA The Meet Up)tag:www.pinupgirlstyle.com,2013-07-26:6504043:BlogPost:2399782013-07-26T03:50:22.000ZAoife 24Khttp://www.pinupgirlstyle.com/profile/AoifeKenny

Night five was to be the big blowout! It did not exactly work out that way. But it turned out very well indeed. So I had attempted to organize a Meet Up on Saturday July 13th. We were to meet at the Boutique. Then there would be shopping and hanging out for an hour or two. Next it was to be off to a restaurant for dinner. And then finally there would be attendance at a burlesque performance. That was the plan.

Chacha Billy and I were carpooling from the Eastside of LA. We left at about 3:30. I figured that we'd get to the Boutique at about 4:15 or so. Well there was a horrible truck accident on the freeway that day. I'd checked out the traffic on my computer before I left home, but I did not notice the accident. Anyway, the traffic got slower and slower. It took us 2 hours and 15 minutes to get to the store. BUMMER! Just a few minutes before us Auburn Hills and Kel Swann had arrived there. We asked Margarita, one of the lovely Boutque employees, if anyone else had shown up for the Meet Up. She said that she was unaware of anyone else having shown up. In fact, I later found out that Natalie and Rhonda Tinch-Mize came to the Boutique but left when none of the rest of us were there. Let me take this opportunity to apologize to Natalie and Rhonda. I am so sorry that we were not there when we planned on getting there. On the plus side Chacha and I got to know each other a lot better. We had met a few months ago when some of the ladies associated with PUG had a yardsale in Whittier. We met each other then and have corresponded a lot since. But we'd not been able to get together until this day. So it was really good to get to talk our heads off during that long drive. Plus I was able to draft Chacha into the role of navigator when we had to drive a different route due to the truck accident.

I had decided that we would journey to Downtown LA after the PUG shopping trip. I won't bore you with the details. But we saw that the traffic was just as bad going away from the accident as it was going towards it. So I decided that we needed to totally change our plans. That was easy to do because it was just the four of us. Auburn Hills and Kel Swann were able to put their heads together and came up with the idea of going to a restaurant in Glendale, Damon's Steakhouse. The restaurant has kind of a Tiki theme going on. It had a bar, and we all agreed that drinks were in order. And it had food. What more could four women want? OK, maybe there are a few more things we'd want but we will save those for another discussion.

You know I have to say just one thing before I go on. Once we got to the Boutique we had an absolutely wonderful time. i did not even mention that I bought some really cute shoes. Chacha bought a cute Tshirt. And I think Ms Auburn bought some item of clothing. Now of course you all want to see photos. Don't you? First pic is of Chacha wearing a dress she tried on. My God she looked amazing in it! She just has to wait awhile before she purchases it. And if her husband reads this BUY IT FOR HER!

Next up are a couple taken inside the store. The ladies looked so amazing. They will have to tell you what they were wearing. I had on a vintage dress originally from the department store I Magnin. I imagine that it was made in the early Sixties. I wore it with a petticoat which I think helped give it that vintage pop. I previously wore the dress when out with Desilu at the Shecky's debacle. But that time I did not wear the petticoat. I showed these photos to the woman who does my facials. She said that she liked the dress but that I should be wearing something more sexy. Oh well. First here is a pic of us in full:

Then here is a closer up shot:

And then we have one taken outside the store by a kind customer:

Finally here is one of us taken at Damon's Restaurant. It was taken by Helen, our Scottish waitress. She was a totally old school waitress. She was not an actor waiting for her big break. She was a real honest to God waitress. And she totally hilarious. She even danced with me a Scottish dance as the four of us left the restaurant. The four of us all have a mutual interest in pin up and vintage glamour. But we had so many other things to share with each other. We kept laughing the whole night through. I think that this was the third or fourth time that I'd met Auburn Hills. Each meeting is better than the last one! And things started out wonderfully. Kel Swann was totally unknown to me prior to this night. And we hit it off immediately, we even both had to ask each other our names a couple of times. I DO know her name now! Chacha has such an interesting life and so many interesting stories to tell. And dolls can you believe those... nails? Amazing!

I could tell lots of stories. But maybe my Meet Up sisters will be willing to share a bit from their perspectives.

I have one more thing to say. I have already decided to plan another Meet Up! This time I am attempting to do a tea party. I tried one once before and I got to have a great day with Dorthy Treasure. But this time I am hoping to have a bigger attendance. It will be on Saturday, August 17th. Check out the Ladies of Los Angeles group for details. Things are still being decided at this point.

I guess that I do have one more thing to say. Pin Up Girls are the nicest people. I am truly honored to have bcome part of this community and to have found so many wonderful women as friends!
Five Nights Of Fun (nights three and four))tag:www.pinupgirlstyle.com,2013-07-24:6504043:BlogPost:2387742013-07-24T01:00:00.000ZAoife 24Khttp://www.pinupgirlstyle.com/profile/AoifeKenny

So the third and fourth nights of my Fun Filled Week were about the ballet. Yep, you heard it right, the ballet. I don't want to sound too snobbish or anything like that. But I love to dance and I love to see dance performances. The American Ballet Theatre was in Los Angeles for a few performances. They had two different programs, a selection of three short ballets and then a performance of Le Corsaire. It almost goes without saying, but the dancing was incredible. And the dancers were…

And the dancers were incredible to look at. The men were so very handsome. The woman all looked so beautiful. And so I wanted to get into the act. Well, I was not going to perform. But I did think that going to the ballet was a special occasion and thus my outfits had to be more special than usual, I guess that means more dressy.

The first outfit is one that I bought at the Stop Staring headquarters where they sell seconds of their clothing. This gold gown I had only worn once before and that was for a photo shoot. This first shot gives you an idea of how the dress looked on me. I took most of these pics across the street from the performance venue, the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. These were taken at some of the outdoor areas at the Disney Hall, the LA Phil performance space.

This was taken in front of the same tree. But I really wanted to get some good close ups. I was trying to for something evocative and like a true professional portrait. But it was taken with my little camera, its timer and my tripod.

Here is one more from the upper patio at the Disney. But this one is in front of the Lotus fountain. It was a bit difficult to coordinate this using just the timer on the camera. However, I am quite happy with the way it turned out.

One more from that night taken at the hotel across from the concert venues at the Omni Hotel. This was taken by the waiter in the bar where I refreshed myself with a liquid libation.

The second night I decided to wear a dress I'd bought on sale at a Nordstroms Rack. It was on sale marked down from like $140 to $40! I know that it is not exactly pin up but it still strikes me as a glamour girl outfit, maybe something a Hollywood star from the early sixties might have worn to a supper club. This was taken in front of the Dorothy Chandler Hall. I am not sure if I was using my small gorilla tripod for this or if a kind young man took this photo. I got pics using both methods.

And one close up that I did use my little tripod for.

I was able to get fairly inexpensive seats for the ballet. In fact for Le Corsaire I bought tickets using Goldstar and paid only $24 for a ticket. I sat in the balcony for that performance and had a really funny conversation with a woman who started talking to me about her turtles. She told me that one of her turtles has a Twitter page. And then she showed me all sorts of funny photos on her iPhone of her turtle wearing all sorts of funny hats and clothing. have you ever seen a turtle wearing a crown? Well, now I have.

One other interesting story I have is that both nights I bought a glass of wine before the performances. I got the same female bartender both nights, even though I was seating in tow totally different levels. Anyway, the second night she got quite chatty asking me my name and just shooting the breeze. I was great to be remembered. And kindness is always rewarded, well on my part anyway. So the second night I gave her a pretty sizable tip... and I always am a good tipper.

I went out to the ballet by myself both times. But I still had a great time. And when one goes out by oneself, you never know who you will meet or what conversations you will have. But the next day I was joined by some friends...TO BE CONTINUED
Five Nights Of Fun (nights one and two)tag:www.pinupgirlstyle.com,2013-07-21:6504043:BlogPost:2383172013-07-21T17:52:13.000ZAoife 24Khttp://www.pinupgirlstyle.com/profile/AoifeKenny

Life rarely presents me with five nights/days in a row of getting to look my best and doing fun, out and about activities. But about a week ago I had that opportunity. And I took full advantage of it. If you don't mind I will take full advantage here to do a bit of show and tell.

It all started on a Tuesday. I had nothing specific planned. But I knew that I wanted to do something. In fact, I got dressed and got in my car before I knew where I was heading. It was a fairly warm Southern California evening. So I decided to wear something sleeveless. Before I had heard about PUG, I found a Chinese manufacturer of mostly vintage style clothing. They are called Chic Style. I have ordered from them a couple of times. The quality of their clothing is not that great, but of course the prices are very good. And they do have a photo sharing space which when you post to it, gets a small credit in their online store. So anyway, I wore this black and white polka dot number. It came with a little shrug but I was not satisfied with the way it looked on me so I went shrug-less. Once I got ready and started driving I still could not make up my mind about where to go. Thankfully I finally made a decision. I went to the very classy Langham Hotel in Pasadena and I had drinks and dinner in the bar. Since I was by myself, I knew that it would be a beautiful and safe place to hang out at. Here are a couple of photos of me taken that night. Nothing much happened, but it was a nice way to slowly start my fun times.

For those of you who are wondering. I was drinking a martini. I had ordered the cheese plate for dinner and on the table is the complimentary nut selection. YUMMY!

The next night I had scheduled to meet up with my friend, Jenn AKA Desilu. I have talked about before in my entries about how I got to know her from this PUG Style forum. We have now gotten together as often as our schedules would coincide for Girls Nights Out. I did do planning for this evening. I wanted to go somewhere which evoked the dinner clubs and restaurants of the Fifties and early Sixties. I chose the Dal Rae restaurant in the city of Pico Rivera. It is a very classy, old school restaurant stuck in a very bizarre location in a city not known for fine dining. But the food is great, the service is impeccable and the ambience is wonderful. It is a steak and seafood kind of place. I had shrimp and Desilu had steak. We covered all of the bases! Desilu and I always have great times together. The time seemed to fly by this night. We just talked our heads off, well when we weren't eating our tasting our beverages. The restaurant was packed and it was a Wednesday evening. And I guess that it goes without saying that many of the restaurant patrons were old school themselves and probably have been going to the restaurant for fifty years or so. I have a few photos to share with you. First of all the neon sign of the restaurant:

Then here is a photo of the two of us at our table taken by our very handsome waiter. By the way, he was definitely not old school. He was quite young and had that typical California boy look.

Here is my favorite pic of Desilu that I've ever taken. She looks so amazing!

And I guess that I should post this one of me. My blush that night turned out to look way too bright. After I saw my first photo I did some makeup adjustment and it looked a bit better. The blush was one I don't use normally. It is going in the trash!

Finally here is one of us taken in the parking lot by the parking lot attendant, a woman who told us that she was really a photographer!

I just realized that I totally forgot to talk about what I was wearing. I was up in Portland during the Fourth of July weekend for their annual Blues Festival. I got an email from Bettie Page clothing that they were having a sale on some of their red, white and blue clothing. Since there was a BP store in Portland I decided I should take a look. I had been thinking about buying this dress anyway, but when I tried it on, I had to have it. And I got it at twenty per cent off normal price. The earrings I bought at a vintage fair in London back in January. I bought them from a guy who primarily gets things from Mali.

I also would like to humbly mention a couple things about what Desilu has. We are both members of the PUG Pals group here. And for those of you in the know, it is a group primarily founded by Leanna Bruce. It was developed to bring us PUG Style members, from all over the world, a little closer together. So we have started sending each other little packages of goodies. My first package was from Desilu. Check out PUG Pals if you want to read about it. Desilu is displaying a couple of the things that I sent her. The first and most obvious thing is the clutch handbag she has. I found it at one of my favorite vintage stores and I knew that it would be just right for my friend. She is also wearing some vintage hose that I found. It was a package of a few pairs of vintage stockings that had never been worn. And again I thought that they would be just right for my friend.

Stay tuned for more of my adventures!
Springtime funtag:www.pinupgirlstyle.com,2013-06-06:6504043:BlogPost:2226312013-06-06T00:35:13.000ZAoife 24Khttp://www.pinupgirlstyle.com/profile/AoifeKenny

Well dolls, I think that it is time for me to do another blog post. I have had some fun activities recently which I thought I might share.
As I have written about before, joining PUG Style has provided me with a new wonderful group of friends, women who are beautiful, intelligent and very interesting. One of those friends that I have made is Jenn. We first met here in discussions in this group. Then I met her by chance one day when she was at her job and I had been out shopping. We had our first girl's night out in early January of this year. Due to all sorts of reasons we did not get together again until just a few weeks ago. So we set a date to meet and decided on going to a club restaurant in Claremont, California. It is a place called the Hip Kitty. Most nights of the week they have entertainment, usually swing related bands. The night we went there was no entertainment. But we did share their signature dish, fondue. Yes that staple dish of dinner parties from back in the Fifties and Sixties is their featured item. What could be more fun than sharing a hot cheesy dip, spearing pieces of bread and veggies into it while trying to look as ladylike as possible. Sadly we did not get any good photos in the restaurant but I brought along my tripod and we got a very good pic of us outside the restaurant.

Then this past Friday night we got together again. I had bought tickets from the discount ticket service Goldstar for an event called Shecky's Girls Night Out. A sorts of items were supposed to be available that would be of interest to women. And a goody bag was included in the admission price. Well this event turned out to be a total dud! We had to wait in line almost two hours to get in. Our goody bag included a granola bar, a coconut water drink and a chapstick and some coupons. We did get lots of time to chat. But with so many women waiting in line inside the hallway of a building, it got very loud and was difficult to hear. The only real consolation was that I found a pair of Pin Up Couture heels for sale at a really good price. Jenn and I had our picture taken at a booth for Veet. And the photo follows. I had hoped that we would be able to make it to the PUG Boutique in order to go to the release party of the I Am Sin makeup line. I knew that would be fun. But all of the waiting in line meant that we could not make it in time. Oh and I also started feeling kind of yucky while at the Shecky's thing. But I will spare you the details of that.

I must tell you that we had not planned in advance to both wear polka dot dresses. I guess that intelligent minds think alike! I had just purchased my dress from a vintage clothing store in the city of Covina here in the LA area. The dress was sold at the old upscale department store, I Magnin. Somehow I have managed to get wholesale discounts from the boutique where I bought the dress. That dress another dress that looks to be from the Thirties and a Hawaiian shirt cost me a total of only $40!!! The owner of the store told me that she just bought the entire inventory of a person who used to have a vintage boutique in Hollywood. The clothes had been in storage in the desert for the past 20 years. She told me that if I want to return, and if I want to bring friends, we can go through all of the items, she has tons, and we can buy to our hearts delight!

Well now for something completely different. I thought that I would share an experience that I had during the Memorial Day weekend. I went with my spouse and joined friends in Seattle, Washington for the Northwest Folklife Festival. It took place the Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday of Memorial Day. There were performances, workshops and dances of all sorts of music from all over the world. There are about twenty different performances going on at a time. And every single event is absolutely free. I took a few pics during the weekend and made a little collage just to show a few things. We heard a few good rockabilly bands. We danced to our heart's content to Balkan and Gypsy music. The Balkan band whose photo I have here is called the Bucharest Drinking Team. Check out the to die for shoes on the singer on the right. There was Cajun music, vintage bands playing music of the Twenties, Old Timey American music, belly dancing... and on and on. It was truly amazing.

I thought I would close this edition with a bit of a heads up, especially for those of you here in Southern California. I am trying to arrange another Meet Up for Saturday July the 13th. It is still open as to what we will do. I have already had some positive responses so we will be doing something. As things are firmed up I will be posting updates. Anyone who is interested is encouraged to join us. The other Meet Up things we have had were really fun. And one final thing if you want to check out some vintage style music for free, Vaud and the Villains will be playing at the Levitt Pavilion in MacArthur Park on Saturday, June 22. I have been going to concerts there for the past few years and it is a perfectly safe and a really interesting outdoor venue. And every concert there is free! http://www.levittla.org/
Pin Up Girl Means Friendshiptag:www.pinupgirlstyle.com,2013-04-22:6504043:BlogPost:2050332013-04-22T01:43:05.000ZAoife 24Khttp://www.pinupgirlstyle.com/profile/AoifeKenny

If you have read the previous blog posts I've written, you know that through PUG Style I've have met some wonderful people and had some great experiences. Well, I am back. And I am here to tell you that PUG Style has allowed me to meet some more great people and to have some new great experiences. After the last shopping meet up I had with some of the So Cal gals, I thought I would ask if anyone was interested in going out for afternoon tea, a proper British tea. I got some interest but most were not able to attend on the day I had selected. Only one PUGster was available. And that was Dorthy Treasure. She jumped at the chance to go out to tea. It turns out that she has been enamored with doing tea since she was a child. And so, she was a definite YES. Yesterday, Saturday April 20th, she and I met up at the Chado Tea Room in Pasadena. I selected Chado because it is a proper tea room and because it is also very reasonable. And for Dotty it was perfect because it was only half a block away from the Metro Gold Line stop. I had bought a Zebra Striped Vamp Dress and I wanted to wear it for this special occasion. I spent at least a couple of hours during the week prior picking out all the right accessories, shoes, underthingees, wig and hat. And even though I had more than a couple of hours to get ready, I still spent about ten minutes in my car after I'd parked making my final adjustments to my makeup, hair and hat. Dorthy was waiting outside the tea room for me. She looked so beautiful in her colorful flowered dress with a cute bolero style sweater. And I have to tell you, Dotty was absolutely wonderful. She is so interesting and has lead a very interesting life. We got to know each other, swapped lots of stories, sipped on our teas and ate some tea goodies. I must say that the food was a bit lacking on this particular day. But we still enjoyed the sandwiches, the scones and the sweets. Having tea with Dorthy was just a tremendous experience. Here are a couple of pics. Of course the first pic is of Dorthy. The second is of me.

Well after a couple of hours at the tea we decided we still had time to do what most of us love to do... SHOP! I suggested a little vintage boutique in Pasadena that I had been by in the past but never had gone inside. Well, the shop had some wonderful clothing, but it was all quite expensive. They also had some cute little knick knacks, but even those were a bit too expensive. So then Dorthy suggested going to a retro/rockabilly store in South Pasadena, Viva Dulce Maria. It was just about the smallest pinup related boutique I've ever been in. But they had a nice selection of clothing and accessories. I ended up buying a cute belt and a snood for myself and for a very special person I bought a petticoat. The couple who run the store were really quite nice. And I definitely plan to return. Well by then it was time for the two of us to part, but not before we took a few more pics. They were taken at the Metro stop where Dotty was catching her train. And once again the first pic is of her and the second is me.

Although I am not on Facebook, I check the PUG related Facebook sites to keep updated on PUG developments. I discovered that Micheline was having a launch of her new DVD, all about makeup and looks for pinup throughout the decades. So I was able to have a second PUG activity yesterday. Somehow in coming from the Pasadena area, I erred in getting myself to the PUG Boutique. But I eventually got myself there, and I was only about ten minutes late. The event started at 6 PM. I was very, very happy to meet a PUGster with whom I had corresponded, but never met. Her name is Emily and she was there with her boyfriend. They were both great to meet and chat with. And of course I was able to convince Emily for me to take her pic. And she returned the favor of taking my pic. I was welcomed by some of the ladies who work at the store and whom I have met before. I want to especially single out Doris Mayday who always remembers me and who welcomed me with a hug. Emily and her boyfriend had to leave early so I was just kind of standing around waiting for my chance to get Micheline to sign my copy of her makeup DVD.
There were so many beautiful PUGsters in attendance. I must admit that I was a bit in awe of all of the dolls who were there. But I was also feeling proud of the way I looked. And I was happy to be in the same room with so many like minded souls. But while waiting around I met two wonderful women who were by themselves and the three of us started talking and hung around together for the rest of my time there. Now this is where I have to beg for forgiveness. There was a woman with curly raven-black hair who was just a kick to talk with. And she had the greatest tips for making ones "girls" look their perkiest. Oh and she helped me make an adjustment in my girls which I had not noticed that I had needed. let me just say it was a rather warm day in LA and the heat and sweating caused things to get a bit our of alignment. Anyway there was also this woman with striking straight blonde hair and the most amazing lip color. These two ladies were incredible. And I have totally forgotten their names. So if either of you are out there please right me and set me straight. Also I would love to be able to meet you both in the future, so I hope that you both are out there. And sorry to say I did not get pics of either of them. But I did get a pic of me with Micheline. And I think that it turned out quite well. Micheline did an in-person eyebrow tutorial but sadly, I had to leave in the middle of it.

What a wonderful Saturday I had. And it was all because of the connections I have made through PIn Up Girl Clothing. I am eternally grateful to all of you at PUG who have made this possible.
A 24K Thank You to Pinup Girl and Pinup Girl Styletag:www.pinupgirlstyle.com,2013-03-26:6504043:BlogPost:1970932013-03-26T01:30:00.000ZAoife 24Khttp://www.pinupgirlstyle.com/profile/AoifeKenny

Well there are some things that I have been wanting to post and I think that posting it to my blog is the best way to get the job done. I guess that first I will start with a little background. And for those of you who don't know me, I will tell you the big thing first, I am transgendered. Yep, that means I was born as a male and I live as a male most of the time.
But I have a very strong feminine aspect to my makeup (and I am not talking cosmetics here). I have not had any of "the surgery" and most people only know me in guy mode. But as you can tell by my photos, I try to present myself in the best possible manner when in female mode.

So, how did I get into the whole pinup girl thing? Well it started slowly. As I started to build a wardrobe for myself I often frequented thrift stores. Of course I picked up lots of clothing at good prices. But I found some really wonderful vintage clothing. I began wearing the vintage clothes with some regularity. And I got feedback from people telling me that I looked like Hollywood actresses of the Forties, Fifties and Sixties. Somehow, at some point something clicked in my head. I decided that I was in fact a glamour girl and that was how I needed to present myself. A few things happened. I started to explore the internet to find reliable outlets for vintage and vintage repro clothing. I joined pinup site (not PUG Style). I had my first makeover, asking for a pinup look (MAC). And then I had my first photoshoot. All of this took awhile. It was not an overnight transformation. But it was an evolutionary process. And slowly I became the pin up loving woman I am today.

Now I will bring PUG into the picture. I think I found out about PUG through Yelp when I was searching for retro clothing stores. That was sometime last year. Then I found PUG Style. I have learned so much from my sisters here on PUG Style. And most importantly, I have made some very good friends. And these friends are just so loving and accept me for who I am. You all know who you are! PUG Style has also alerted me to lots of tips and resources. And I found a very, very wonderful photographer through this site.

Now it is time to share some photos. I won't post anything here that I've already shared. But first off I want to show you my newest in the flesh friend who I met through PUG Style. Her name is Chacha Billy. We met via the Ladies Of Los Angeles group. But we met in person this past Saturday at the Second Annual Vintage Yardsale put on by some of the PUG staff and their friends. By the way, I managed to buy a few cool things at really good prices. But now I want to show you Chacha. Note her totally fantastic manicure.

And I guess that I had better post a pic of me. Chacha was kind enough to take some pics. But I think that I will post one I took later with my tripod after visiting King Richard's Antique Mall. I kind of liked the industrial background and I knew the shade would make for a better photo. I am wearing a dress that I found just the day before at an antique store. It only cost $12!

So now I want to go back in time a bit. A few months ago a PUGster asked about pin up photographers throughout the US and LA was one of the locales she asked about. Well PUGster Emily mentioned a sister photographer Jules of Crownjules Photography. Here is her website: http://www.crownjulesphotography.com/

Jules was having a Valentine's seek special. So I wrote her and made an appointment. First of all let me tell you that the shoot was the most fun of any I have ever done. And now I have done four. She and her makeup artist Kat had me laughing all day and they made me look so darned good. I wore three outfits that day, two were PUG dresses and one was from Vivian of Holloway which I bought in London back in January. When Jules sent me the proofs I started crying, they were just so incredible. In the last few days I got the final edits and I am just absolutely floored by how good they look, how good I look! I just have to share some of them with you.

First off, a couple pics of me wearing the burnt gold Ava dress. I ordered the dress during the black Friday sale. But I wanted to wait for a very special occasion to wear it. The first pic is a full length shot to show you how great it looks and how it accentuates what I have got. The second shot is maybe the sexiest shot I have ever done. I don't know how it turned out so well. But I love it.

And now to my tropical look. Here I am wearing the Tiki Twist dress in orange and red. Again I am totally amazed at how great these turned out. I will just share one for now.

And now finally a couple of pics featuring my Vivan of Holloway dress. I think that it is called the Runaround Sue dress. I hardly ever remember the names of dresses. But in searching right now I think that I came up with the correct name. The first is a full length, housewife drinks some coffee look (before welcoming home her husband with cocktails, a five course dinner and a pleasant surprise afterwards). And then my Jackie Kennedy look. It is amazing what a scarf can do. And the champagne was real! No wonder I had such a great time!

Due to her busy life, she was not able to put anything together as she had hoped. But I am sure that she will make something happen in the future and I want to thank her for bringing us all together. So I decided that it might be fun to do a small Meet Up. Well, a small Meet Up happened back in the fall. It was just Nilay Engin and myself. But we hit it off and in early January the two of us did a shopping trip together. We had a great time, that is until I had my wallet stolen or lost. We went to the MAC store in Glendale, the Lush store and then to the PUG Boutique. Our shopping outing ended there. But we were supposed to go to the What Katie Did store after PUG. Nilay came up with the brainstorm of scheduling a new shopping outing to include PUG and WKD. And she posted an invitation to all of the Ladies of Los Angeles members to join the expedition.

About a month after her initial post, the day for the shopping Meet Up arrived. It was this past Saturday, February the 23rd. I kind of assisted in setting up the times and asking for RSVPs. Six of us met up together at the Pin Up Boutique: Nilay Engin, Ms Auburn Hills, Agueda Zarate, Natalie, Cynthia Alvarez and myself. We were planning on meeting at 1 PM in front of the store. Well, I am not sure when everyone arrived. I ran into a big traffic problem and so got to the store about a half an hour late. I had met both Nilay and Auburn Hills before. But it was my first time meeting Agueda, Cynthia and Natalie. What wonderful ladies... and great shopping companions. I have never ever had such great help in finding the right clothes for myself. These ladies told me what looked good and what did not. And it was so much fun having everyone trying on things, giving feedback, assisting with zipper sipping, and just having a great time! While we were there going wild, there was some kind of filming going on in the store. I think the PUG people said that they are going to be doing some kind of web episodes.

One thing I knew in advance. I wanted to make sure we had photographic proof of our adventures. I brought my camera. And everyone thought it was funny that I brought my tripod. But I wanted to be prepared. the tripod came in handy. But it was also wonderful that Ms Doris Mayday was on hand and assisted in taking some of the photos. That woman is so beautiful and is as kind as she is beautiful!

So I guess maybe you might want to see some photos?

And here we all are outside of the boutique:

So I really wanted to be able to take my PUG friends to my favorite retro lingerie store, What Katie Did. Cynthia and Agueda were not able to join us for that part of our shopping journey. So the four of us remaining ladies went to the WKD Hollywood boutique. I had pre-ordered a Mae corset and had bought some stockings in a flash sale a few days before. So I was just picking things up. But my co-conspirators had to try on some of the unbelievable WKD merchandise. I know that Nilay bought a corset and I think Auburn Hills bought an item or two. The following pic was taken by Michelle of What Katie Did. I am not sure of what her exact title is but she is like the High Priestess of WKD here in the US. Michelle is a truly wonderful person and has made all of my visits to What Katie Did very wonderful shopping outings. The main store is in London and is of course owned by Katie.

PUG really does bring people together. As you can see we are all different, with different styles, we are of different ages and if you have not figured it out, there is one big difference between me and the other women. But we all share a desire to look our best. And we all share a love for PUG clothing and the Pin Up Look in general.

Now I have a question. Have we all made you all a little bit jealous? Well then do something about it. Go out with your PUG sisters wherever you are may be. Of course here in LA it is pretty easy to find sister PUGsters. But I know that if you try, you can also have some great shopping Meet Ups.

And just a couple more things. I had an absolutely wonderful time. I want to thank the staff at the PUG Boutique. I want to thank my PUG sisters. And I want to thank Michelle at What Katie Did. All six of us agreed that we have to do something again. I have an idea or two. And maybe others of you may have ideas. So let us make another Meet Up happen! And I know that we'd love to have more of our local PUGsters join us next time.
Fun times...
Let me start off with my trip to London. I have been fortunate to make regular visits to London, usually during the month of January for a round of intense theatre activities, lots of museum visiting and in general loads of fun stuff. I won't go into all of my activities but I will mention some things that have to do with fashion. The Victoria and Albert Museum had a fantastic exhibition on costumes from the movies. It just ended about a week ago. There were so many great iconic costumes on display, the background info was quite detailed and the presentation was very hi tech. This was just marvelous. There were a couple other costume exhibits on but I missed those. I visited two retro clothing stores, Collectif and Vivien of Holloway. I got great service in both stores. Collectif was having a sale on so I bought a dress for only twenty pounds, about $32. And I found a darling hat. V of H has great British made retro fashions. I would say that their prices are a bit higher than PUG. But they have very good quality merchandise. I bought a red Forties style dress there. My favorite shopping experience was at the London Vintage Fashion Fair which seems to happen every few months. It was a snowy Sunday morning but worth trudging through the snow to get to Hammersmith to the venue. There were maybe 30 to 40 vendors. I managed to get some great deals on jewelry including a wonderful art deco pin. I found some unique tribal art from Afghanistan and Mali. And I found a vintage dress from the Forties at only twenty pounds. Here is a photo of some of the vendors:

Oh, one more thing I will mention. In the West End there is a new production of the Fred Astaire movie musical, Top Hat. The songs, the dancing, the acting are all top notch. And the costumes, Thirties style, are to die for!

I have been back home for a couple of weeks now. And I have already had some wonderful vintage fashion experiences. This past weekend in Santa Monica was the Vintage Fashion Expo. It is held there twice a year and is in San Francisco twice a year. There were lots of vendors, lots of room to explore all the clothing and jewelry and it was not overcrowded. That may have been because it was Super Bowl Sunday. I was joined by one of my PUG sisters Ms Auburn Hills. Although we'd chatted online before, we had never met. It was so nice to meet her and spend time shopping with her. I did not buy anything at the Expo. I found the prices a bit too steep for my taste. But it was still great fun to attend. And it was a great excuse to get into vintage mode. Here is one pic of Auburn Hills and one of me:

OK, I have one more experience to tell you about. On Saturday night I went the OC to the Boers Museum. They are having a special exhibition on costumes from the movies. It was not nearly as extensive as the V&A's but it was still quite good. This exhibition features only costumes made by the British Costume firm Cosprop. There are some wonderful costumes on display. My personal favorite was one from the film Mrs. Dalloway. I have a photo of it. One more thing, there was a cabaret review by a group doing songs from Hollywood musical. And the performers wore costumes that were actually worn by stars in the movies. It was great!

Before I go, let me tell you about something upcoming. The FIDM museum in Downtown LA has a presentation of costumes from the past year's movies. It is done every year. This year's exhibition will start on February 12th. Admission to the museum is free. And parking in their lot on Saturdays is free also. This is a must see in my opinion.

I hope you have enjoyed reading about some of my adventures. Stay beautiful PUGsters!
Aoife starts to rambletag:www.pinupgirlstyle.com,2012-11-21:6504043:BlogPost:1550212012-11-21T04:51:54.000ZAoife 24Khttp://www.pinupgirlstyle.com/profile/AoifeKenny

I am not really a blogger. I don't mind telling people about my adventures. And I absolutely LOVE to talk, especially one to one. But I just have a few things to say and this may be as good a place as any to say it. So here goes...

I am not really a blogger. I don't mind telling people about my adventures. And I absolutely LOVE to talk, especially one to one. But I just have a few things to say and this may be as good a place as any to say it. So here goes...

First of all, I love the discussions here on PUG Style. This is such a friendly, supportive environment in which all of us PUGsters get to share. I love reading all of the posts. I love the ideas, the suggestions, the photos, the interplay. And one of my most favorite things about the pin up scene is that it is so diverse. Although the clothing reflects a special time period in the mid Twentieth century, the makeup of the PUG scene is total 21st century. There are women of every size, every ethnicity, every hair color (multiple hair colors even, from young to old, from virtually all over the world. And the people that are here are just so open and so kind. I am so happy to be here! This is not the only pin up site that I belong to. But it seems to be the most active. It seems that it is active because most members are regular everyday people. Sure there are models and industry professionals here. But that seems to be the exception rather than the rule. Nowadays, this is the first place that I check when I turn on my computer. And I am so happy when I see that there are new things that I am interested in to check out.

My pin up wardrobe is composed of clothes from lots of different sources. I started first buying vintage clothing. And that was because I found vintage pieces at thrift stores. And things at thrift stores are usually pretty inexpensive. And then I had people telling me how I resembled famous women from the golden age of pin up. So I knew that I was on to something. I found some vintage clothing stores, the prices were higher than the thrift stores but it was much easier finding things that I wanted. Then I decided that to really get clothes that suited me and that fit me, it was time to go to newly made, vintage style clothing. I first found Stop Staring, buying at their factory store. But then I started searching out other places. I had vintage style dresses made to my measurements at reVamp Vintage. And then I found PIn Up Girl Clothing! Oh and i must mention my favorite retro lingerie source, What Katie Did. Other places have some great clothing. Everyplace has its plusses and minuses. But the thing that sets PUG apart from all the rest is this online community.

Now I'd like to just clue you in to a few things. The Holiday season is coming up. And Christmas is not just about shopping! If you live in So Cal I have found a really good holiday themed show which will occur at Disney Hall. It is the Don Tiki Hot Lava Holiday Show taking place Thursday December 20th. Wouldn't it be great to celebrate this season in tiki style? Oh and I have just bought tickets via Goldstar for the Winter Wonderettes show at the La Mirada Theatre. I have not seen previous Wonderette shows but it is based on an invented female singing group from the Fifties.

I am usually not too far from my iPod. I know the iPod is not very vintage but it is SO portable. One of my fave podcasts is from electro-swing.com. Swing music is combined with modern beats and it is music guaranteed to help you move quickly if you are power walking or will help you push that vacuum cleaner about in a more rapid manner. One more retro, internet radio show that I have just recently found is the Harry and Edna On The Wireless program, a show from England with both vintage music and chat about vintage subjects. I found out about it on the What Katie Did board. And I am really glad to have discovered it.

I could ramble on, but maybe I should just stop here.... So I guess I will! Bye for now.
