..like if you pretty ladies didn't already knew that ! :)

Pin curling is, hands down, the best technique to achieve vintage hairstyle. Women of the 40s...til the early 60s religiously pin curled their hair every night before going to sleep. It was the « base » of almost every popular hair styles of the time wether your hair was short or long.

As every « newbie pin curler », I'm aware of how frustrating it can get when you feel overwhelmed by spending 30min/1hour at night to have nice looking hair in the morning...

Fact is itsn't difficult to master BUT it does take time...

When it comes to doing my hair I must be one of the laziest girl I can think of... but I decided it was time to « cut that shit » (sorry for that :D) & start pin curling on a daily basis :).

I wanted to show you pics of the past couple days because it feels good when hard work finally starts to pay.

This is how my 5th pincurl set ever turned out. I tried the « alternate pincurls » technique (1 row clockwise & 1 row counter clockwive) also lnow as the pin curl wave.

Picture 1 is how the set turned out on day 1.

Picture 2 & 3 is how the same set turned out on day 2. (I re-pinned everything dry in place before bed)

This demonstrate the versatility of styling options pincurls give & also that spending a little time every night allow you to get 2 or more days (depending on your hair type/texture) of vintage hair.

I was happy with the result & it really motivates me to keep up with this gorgeous & healthy curling technique. :)

I feel I'm learning more everytime I'm doing it ! It's so cool !

I try to do pincurls, but I always end up looking like a poodle! which is quite frustrating, to spend an hour meticulously curling my hair, sleeping on it, then taking the pins out in the morning to reveal a giant ball of fuzz that I can't do anything with :( Are there any special products that you use to make yours come out so nicely?

Hum... having a big frizzy mess with pincurls is a normal thing.

It WILL happen no matter what you do.

When you start the brush out & begin to see the frizz don't freak out : KEEP ON BRUSHING !

Pincurls are very resilient & you can really brush these out !!! Really just keep brushing under with your palm over your hair & it'll start to tame after some brushing.

Frizzing happens to me all the time ! I have very fine hair so you can imagine ! LOL

I usually put a little smoothing serum (like john frieda Frizz ease...) or light hair pomade on the ends (just a little) & brush "under" until it behaves ^_^

Some people say that using a "wired" brush helps with frizz... but I use a boar bristle one & I didn't feel the need to change for now.

Really the key is not to freak out if it doesn't come perfect straight away...perfectly normal thing :). It takes time & a little experiment to know how your particular hair "reacts" to pin curls & how much brushing out it'll need but you have to be patient & everything will come together :). believe me ^_^

My problem with pin curls is that I live in North Queensland (aust.) & the humidity make them drop within an hour or so :( but i do love them!

Oh yes humidity is a great problem for curls... Did you try using a setting lotion or mousse ? I find it helps a little. I use lottabody setting lotion myself.

I know that even with lots of hairspray there's nothing much you can do about humidity... maybe cute updos would be a better option until "weather proof "spray is invented...

Maybe the "steam" curlers would work nicer for you with that weather type...

I havn't tried a mousse before. I usually just hair spray the crap out of my hair! Yeah, I usually do victory rolls when I can't be bothered trying for curls - which is alot cause I'm lazy!

I find setting lotion (lottabody) works well for me & makes my curls shiny & less frizzy than with just plain water... I know some girls prefer to use a tiny bit of gel as setting product too...

Oh have you tried tying  a scarf over your hair when you're out ? It helps a lot with wind... but don't know for humidity though... worth trying imo.

Your hair looks lovely. I am still trying to master making pincurl waves. I love the Sculpture Pincurl tool. For me it cuts the time in half.

thanks !!! oh I've had my eyes on this for quite some time now... is it really sturdy ? I don't want to spend money on something that would need a replacement after 4/5 uses...

Cutting the time & making it easier is what I'm looking for.. :)))

It's made of thin plastic but it's pretty sturdy. I have thick coarse hair and it's held up for me. You get two in a box also.

Oh that's cool ! I've seen the box on "vintage blogs" & I love the very cute retro pastel design ! ^_^

If it handled your thick hair it will probably handle well the babyfine mine :D  !

thanks girl !

thank you so much ! :))))

I use foam rollers from time to time too ! I do find them easier too BUT I get a lot more frizz with them & I find them pretty uncomfortable to sleep in... Sometimes I find the ends of my hair are rolled to tight on the foam rollers & get "stucked" which most of the time causes me a little breakage :(...

If you find it works great for you then keep up with the rollers ;) the most important isn't the method but the result ^_^

I agree that pin curls are the best. I do sleep with the cheap pink foam curlers once in a while. They turn out nice but pin curls are so much more comfortable that curlers. I notice the difference between having a hair product like nay favorite shine it hairspray and not having any. My curls last longer and are more defined using the hairspray.
