I was just wondering who everyone's favorite artist were ?
My all time fav would have to be MARK RYDEN there is just something so beautifuly disturbing about his work. I'm also a HUGE fan of KATHIE OLIVAS. Some of my other favories would have to be CAMILLE ROSE GARCIA, JASON LIMON, JEFF SOTO, DAN MAY and TARA MCPHERSON. I've been lucky enough to collect signed and numbered prints by everyone but MARK RYDEN and CAMILLE ROSE GARCIA unfortunately they are out of my price range.
Kat - Looks like we both share similar favorite artists. Mark Ryden was one of my first favorite living artists. I been to a few of his exhibitions one of which I stood right next to hime. This exhibit was The Tree Show, I had no clue he'd be there, he just popped out of a door in the wall and he was RIGHT NEXT TO ME! My husband said "get next to him and I'll take a photo"... NOPE! Sorry, I was so nervous I just left the exhibit. Isn't that just ridiculous?! I can't believe I did that. I have a Mark Ryden tattoo on the back of my arm-the skeleton sketch with the big head. I was out of town on business and missed one of his exhibits, my husband went to the show alone and met Mark Ryden and had him sign one of my books for me! How exciting! I still would love to meet the man in person.
I have a Camille Rose Garcia book as well and would love to have her sign that someday. That's so great that you have work by all the other artists you've mentioned. I WANT THAT! I've spent a lot of my money on local artwork and wish I could have more of the big time stuff.
I'm like you though, I have many artists that I love. To add to your list I also love Audrey Kawasaki, Caia Koopman, Kukula, Kathy Olivias, and gosh many more. Check out those I've mentioned; I'm sure you'll fall in love.
I introduced my husband to the art world, he now has a favorite artist-Ralph Steadman. Steadman did all the art for Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (one of my husband's favorite movies). When we were married my gift to him was a signed and numbered Ralph Steadman print called "Lizard Lounge". This piece was created after a scene in the movie (also my husband's favorite scene).
My all time favorite artist is Frida Kahlo. I fell in love with Frida well before the movie and have read and own many books about her.
Thanks for sharing your favorite artists. Hopefully we can get others involved in this discussion. Let me know if you have other questions :)
