There are so many sites and places to buy a corset.  While custom is of course best, when starting out it's quite an expensive leap to make off the bat. So here are some "Off The Rack" corsets I have and would recommend.

My first corset was from this store called http://www.timeless-trends.com/

I have the one pictured above "Emerald Brocade Under-Bust". By the way when starting out I recommend an under-bust as apposed to over-bust. Unless you are around a C cup or smaller under-busts can be hard to get a good fit in. Even then I would still start with an under-bust.

This is a beautiful corset. I believe all of Timeless Trends corsets are cut from the same basic pattern and construction so you are really only deciding on the fabric. They are usually around $99 dollars, (sometimes less, check their sale section!) which is an amazing deal because they are extremely well made. They have a lifetime guarantee. shipping was really fast too.

The only down side for me is they have more of a modern hourglass shape. I can't cinch my waist as much as I am capable because there isn't quite enough room for my big hips. I have about a  25" to 26" waist and 38" hips. The one I own is a 24" corset and I feel comfortable with it laced all the way, but It does pinch a little at the hips. I could also see displacement bulge being an issue if I went smaller.

This is one of my absolute favorites! The Morticia Corset from What Katie Did.

http://www.whatkatiedid.us.com/products/corsets (this is their US site)

I love the curves this corset has. The hip gores leave plenty of room for my big hips so I can lace down much better. It's a long line corset so it holds everything in nicely down below.  WKD corsets are all so beautiful and they have so many beautiful vintage inspired styles. They are not made for training or tight lacing. I own a 20" Morticia, I usually only lace down around 23". But because of the curvy construction a 23" waist looks like a 20" waist . It was around $275 last I checked but they sometimes have great deals in their Ebay store and in their LA and London shops.

My other favorite is my Josephine under-bust by Isabella Corsetry  http://www.corsetmaker.com/cat/Very similar to the Morticia with the hip gores and and all around curves. The Morticia has more of a V shaped ribcage, this one is slightly more curved over the ribs. It's also a little more sturdy for training. I use this one most often for daily wear. It is in their immediate shop for $175, I got mine on sale for $140 a few months ago.

Ok add to this list ladies...

I have so many questions and am so glad you started this group!  I've always done the cheap, fashion corsets (no cinching at all) and would really like to get a corset that will actually cinch me in.  Above you mention "tight-lacing" and "waist training." I want to get something that will make my waist look tiny!  Would you recommend timeless trends for this?  I've tried on the fabulous $200 corsets but am not sure I am ready to commit that much to my cause!

Actually WKD just answered most of these questions on their website.  Thanks for sharing!

Tanks, i Will order this one from wkd

Fairygothmother.co.uk has some gorgeous corsets too!  Keep an eye on their sale section for great deals.

Wow, what a difference!  Great photos.  I am dying for a WKD corset, but as this will be my first "real" corset purchase, the money scares me a bit.  I've recently been looking at Crepe Suzette brand corsets and they seem to have good reviews and are a tiny bit lower priced than WKD.  Has anyone tried them?  I have a vintage figure too, so I definitely want to maximize the curve and avoid the straightening.

Oh thank you!!!  I actually found the exact one I want on sale!  Yippeee.  So glad you shared this.  I'll post pics once I get it.  So even though it shows up now, I have to wait to order until the 31st?  And you should feel very proud that your awesome tiny waist has inspired me to splurge ;)

Did you go the 4 inches down from your natural waist or 6?  I have a 28" waist naturally and was told I could do either a 24" or 22".  What's your opinion?  Thanks!

Thank you so much for your help!  I just ordered the Morticia.  Seems like that was the best option for a newbie. And it was the one I'd been eyeing for quite some time on their site.

I didn't know how to post the picture here so I started a new post, but I think I just figured it out...haha. I got my WKD Morticia corset and am so in love!  Thanks Ruth Anne for the recommendation :)

It looks lovely on you!

Thank you!

My first corset was a Crepe Suzette and it was sooo comfortable!

that is a nice corset, i just bought and received this corset from xykoo.com     http://www.xykoo.com/Product.asp?id=4779&class=&menu=6

i find they have lots of off the track corsets, see the picture, i will dress up as a pirate princess, love the top   http://www.xykoo.com/Product.asp?id=4706&class=&menu=    and also the skirt  http://www.xykoo.com/Product.asp?id=4468&class=3&menu=3   ,  ( i will buy the same skirt in blue color later, it is gorgeous) , you can buy them separately though, does not need to be a combo , but having pay 32 pounds, i got a free gift (over 20 pounds) , so i did not buy them separately  .
