I don't know how to start this discussion honestly. I'm always curious when I look through all your photos and read your bios. No one really talks about what they do for a living. I guess I wonder this because I work such an obscure job that I always imagine all the PUG enthusiasts are well known celebrities, or powerful business women because you are all so beautiful.

I work in the offshore oilfield, 6 months a year I'm offshore on a barge or a boat and usually there aren't many girls. I wear steel toe boots, a hardhat, and pants. I never wear makeup and my hair is always in a ponytail. The other 6 months out of my year, I'm usually in a dress with full makeup and my hair done.

So I guess what I'm asking is what do you guys do for a living?

You. Are. Brilliant.

Oooo! Forensic Investigator... I thought about getting my Masters in Forensic Sciences if I decided to head towards that route instead of collecting some Physics credits--it's all I need to be a Forensic Scientist for the WA State Patrol. I've also pondered on going the route of a Medical Tech, but we'll see how everything fares in the future.

I would love to shadow you sometime! :) Do you think that would be possible at all?!

of course!

Awesome!! Let's keep in touch! :)

OMG, you have the best job ever!!!!!! How many years of school did you do?

I'm a sleep physiologist. It's a weird job, which gets a lot of attention at dinner parties! It also means that my dreadlocks (now deceased), piercings, and preference for styling my uniform raised a few eyebrows, and led to more than a few rows (initiated by me) when my professionalism was (unreasonably) called into question (because I'm the 'sleep girl' with the hair - not because my clinical skills or excellent patient care). I even had a patient refuse to talk to anyone but the male junior until I sat him down and and clearly explained to him that I was the senior staff member. I'll never forget his face.

There's nothing better than feeling like a lady.

You just sound too cool! I can never sleep without any kind of sleep aid (since the age

of 14) and the fact that you're hair is in dreadlocks at work would simply bring me to your office :)

I'm a mom of a cute little dude and get paid as a freelance technical writer. There's a Major Northwest Software corporation that takes up most of my work hours.  I write mostly software help and UI, but my most current gig is all about server design and installation. I love that I get to learn new things nearly every day. When I'm in software, most folks seem to appreciate my PUGwear (which mostly comes out on warm days), but I'm nowhere near as counterculture as Steampunk Guy and Victorian Editor who dress HARDCORE every day! In hardware, it's still strongly-male dominated, classic geek, so there are many more nstances of the jeans/top combos. However, there's still flowers or bows in my hair every day. It makes me happy, and other people smile. :)

Other Puget Sound area TechPUGs, we should so get together and lunch and look awesome. :)

Ahh! That's awesome! I'm in the Puget Sound area also! I'm not a technical writer, but I'm an IT recruiter, so I sometimes source and interview technical writers depending on each client's needs!

Well then, we should talk! Message me and maybe we can meet up. :)

Most definitely! Messaging you now... :)
