One subject that I've not seen much written about is Pin Up Nails. But it always seems to me that Pin Up Nails are pointier than most modern manicures. I have often seen two tone manicures on pin up girls. I would really love to get more info about this. And then I wonder do most of you do your own nails or do you have them done? And finally, if you are in the LA area do you have any recommendations for places to go for Pin Up manicures? I hope you  don't mind, but I really want to "Nail" this! LOL!

Thanks!

Half-moon manicures were very popular for decade. You can do this at home very easily. There are several different style of nail shapes you can ask for - rounded and almond shape seemed to be the most typical of the era. Hope that helps! xx

That is some really good information Rayleen. I'd never heard of half-moon manicures before but I'm really going to give try one out.

Every extra detail that adds to the pinup look helps complete the look :)

I'd say ideal nails back then were more of an elongated almond shape :) It makes the hands look slimmer & elegant.

Personnaly my nails aren't very long for now so I just keep them in a rounded/oval shape & that looks fine.

Just stay away from squarish shapes.

Half moon were popular & very sophisticated but I'd say most women just painted their nails red or pastel colors such as pink or peach.

I use Essie Fishnet stockings (rich berry red) all the time for a classic manicure... looks timeless, simple & elegant.

I like to do the half moon nails, as it is authentic to the era (40s and 50s) and it makes my fingers look crazy long! I did a tutorial on my blog http://pacifiersandpinups.wordpress.com/2012/12/12/how-to-get-perfe...

It is pretty easy to do at home, I'm not great at nail art but I can do this :)  I like to do a rounded shape on my nails to mimic the shape of the half moon and again to elongate my fingers.
