Hi Gals,

I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with a wonder make-up sealant products they could recommend? I recently bought ELFs eyeliner primer and sealer, but was a bit disappointed that they 'sealer' doesn't actually work with liquid/gel eyeliners, and instead is meant to be used as an additive to eyeshadow to create a liner itself. The primer wasn't too great either... my skin is typically normal to dry, but as I use a rosehip oil in the mornings (great for treating eczema, BTW) and make up does have a tendency to slide off after a while!

I see Benefit's She Laq is highly rated (but now discontinued :( ) as is Cake eyeliner sealer, but I'm a little dubious about buying a liquid sealant that'll just cause my gel liner to smudge and streak.

(Just between us, I have used Lipcote lipstick sealer on my eyeliner 'flicks', which worked great...but I know it's not suitable for the eye area and had to be super-careful!)

Thanks in advance ladies! xx

Is this a product that you would be able to spray on your face to set your make-up and keep it from running (like a hot mess in the summer)? I did not know this existed!!! PLEASE DO TELL EVERYONE! I NEED SOME OF THIS!!

Urban Decay have three different spray make up setting sprays - depending on what you need from it (oily skin, dry skin, or just your make up to stay put).  I've tried the first two, and have a tester for the third somewhere, and I love them.

I use a few things. First I use a foundation primer - I've tried everything from drugstore brands to super expensive SmashBox primer. But instead of paying $43 for a small bottle of SmashBox I buy this:

For $7 you get way more product and guess what - someone figured out they're made of basically the same ingredients! It works as great for me as the SmashBox primer. For my lids I swear by Urban Decay Potion Primer. My eyeshadow NEVER creases. If it's SUPER humid I finish my make up with Ben Nye Sealer Spray - I read a ton of review on sealers and this not only got great reviews it's like $7! http://makeupshowroom.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&prod.... I've tried UD's setting spray and didn't love it.

Now granted if its 100 degrees with wicked humidity no amount of anything is going to stop me from looking a little shiny but the combination of those things helps a ton.

Hi! I realize this is a fairly old discussion but I have been doing some research about primers and saw the monistat cream come up more than once! I've read a lot of people comparing it to the SmashBox primer. I was just wondering what skin type you have and if the monistat cream seems to affect it at all? Mine can be a little sensitive and I am concerned that this may be too harsh for it. Thanks!!

Hey Amber - thanks so much! I had seen and considered the Ben Nye, so glad you can recommend! I had seen a few sprays, although I only had an issue with the gel eyeliner I'm using (I'm using Maybelline 24hr gel liner, but it still slips off if I've applied my facial oil earlier on). I hadn't really considered the foundation primers, and I don't really wear foundation or powders - usually it's just a bit of tinted moisturiser if my complexion needs a pick me up. I suppose I could use the primers and sprays around the eye area only though.

Thanks very much Sammi too! I like the idea of there being different sprays for different skin types too...so that's definatley another option for me to explore.

Thanks ladies - much appreciated! x

Is there a store that carries the Ben Nye sealer spray or is it only available online?

I think I got mine on Amazon.

OK ladies - just thought I'd post an update in case anyone else was on the look out for a similar product!
I researched the Ben Nye product, and although most of the reviews were great, I was a little concerned that it may be too strong a product on to my sensitive skin. I think I will try getting my hands on a tester somewhere so that I can see whether it is suitable or not.

I was on the lookout for Skindanavia and Urban Decay setting spray (I understand they are the same formula); particulary the all-nighter; but they were (unsurprising) pretty expensive. Then I came across a small spray called Model Co. airbrush spray, which I tried for the first time today. It smells a bit chemical-y, but dried pretty quickly with no odour. No irritation or stinging either, which is a plus! Now, I don't really wear any face makeup - but in terms of eyes/brows and lips, all seem to have remaining intake throughout the course of the day.  I did also apply a little blush this morning too, and that also seems to have held well 7 hours later. The bottle also suggested you can use it as a primer base, although I have yet to try that.

I'm pretty impressed (although not a miracle product) and I think sprays are the way to go. I will try out some more to see how they compare, as I mentioned, with Ben Nye next on my list!

Since I do a lot of theatre, we usually use the Ben Nye setting spray. Since I always had a bottle, that's what I had used for a long time..I have sensitive skin too and it burned my face off! (not literally but that's what it felt like) I switched to the Urban Decay All Nighter spray and like it so much more!

Now I only use my Ben Nye on stage and to set my lipstick. I'll spray it on a tissue and blot my lips with it. It really makes a difference!

Also, in a fix...spray your face with hairspray, haha!

My skin is relatively sensitive and the Ben Nye didn't bother me - BUT I don't use it daily - I pretty much use it only when it's really hot and I need my make up to stay.

I love Model in a Bottle but I think it's a little bit pricey - but they do have a 'sensitive'  skin option that is nice :)  the spray pump on it is a little annoying though and here it is about $30 for a 60ml bottle but for me it lasts forever and a day so that's not really a huge problem.
