Hey Beauties,

I have a question about high waisted pants and skirts. Were exactly is the waist band supppose to start? I am 5'2" and I am worried that maybe what I think is high waisted is really just too long and starting too high on my body. I am finding that skirts listed as high waisted start right at the base of my rib cage. Does that sound right?

Thank you in advance!

I think they're supposed to go where your natural waist is. So if you bend to one side, your natural waist is that crease that forms. This seems to be why high-waisted pieces are so flattering - they cinch in the natural waist, especially if you throw on a belt. If you feel uncomfortable with the height, the cut of the skirt or pants may not be right for you. I'd just try around and see. Like for pencil skirts, a lot of people like the Dixiefried one, but that hits a weird spot on my waist and I feel uncomfortable. The Pinup Couture pencil skirt is much more comfortable to me and hits my waist in the right spot, so I prefer that one.

Hope that helps! :)

Hi, Amber! I think Jenn's response was great for finding your waistline. Right below your ribs cage doesn't sound too high at all. Keep in mind that the rise for high-waisted skirts and pants is going to differ from one item to the next. I'm a tad under 5'4" and my Dixiefried pencil skirt and Deadly Dames leopard capris hit me right below the ribs, but my DD Kinky Ruffles skirt hits maybe an inch or two even higher than that while my DD cigarette pants hit a couple of inches lower, right at the top of my belly button. So, it really may just be finding what your personal preference is. Also, don't forget to check the model's measurements; our lovely Natasha Aasadore tops out at 5' so you can see where items hit her for reference.

Hope that helps! <3

Hey Amber -

I <3 the high-waisted clothing because it hits at my natural waist, thereby instantly more flattering on me. I am also 5'2", and I have a pair of high-waisted (modern) jazz pants (ironically, done by the Kardashian Kollection @ work, aka Sears), and they literally hit about an ince or so below my bust. Jenn Bailey has it spot on as to how to find your natural waist... and I have several true vintage skirts that are high-waisted, and they all hit right there. I may hem something if it goes too far below the knee (skirt-wise), but you have to find the hemline that works for you and your body (my legs, ironically) are longer, and I have a shorter torso, so for me, I can go a little longer on the hemline, but shirts I often have to shorten as well.

If you would like, post a couple of pics in your "problem" clothes and we'll let you know (nicely) whether or not it works, or if you're hitting in the wrong spot!! The girls on here are EXTREMELY helpful!!

Jenn =)
