Help! Need stocking & garter belt advice...
OK. I am a fledgling Pinup Girl. I've only recently found this wonderful world of fabulous style, although I guess I've been circling on the outskirts of it for years...
I am 5'2" & curvier, especially in the thighs and ass region. My legs are a little extra-short.
I have dreamed for years--for my whole adult life--of wearing real stockings and a garter belt. I don't know...it just seems like it would be AWESOME. But I always felt like it wouldn't work with my fat little legs...
So the big work Xmas party is coming up...I'm going to try to make this dream come true. I bought a Rago garter belt (6 garters) which has a little girdle ability. It pulls on, no hooks. I also got some "practice" stockings. They are Leg Ave, lace top, stretchy.
Results of my trial run...the garter belt seems to fit, but when I move it keeps trying to roll up on me. The stockings are perhaps even more of a problem...they're maybe too long or too stretchy...or maybe they're just crappy...or maybe it's my thighs...but the tops won't stay flat and smooth.
Do I have the wrong gear? Can any of you nice ladies recommend good stockings for someone of my size/shape? Or are stockings really just for skinny girls?

Often when things roll up it's because you need to go up a size. Many Rago items are quite good as far as going up a size and not losing too much of the compression ability. I'm not currently aware of anyone who does petite stockings, but several places have stockings for curvier thighs. I have thick thighs and can't stand thigh bulge or rolling, so I get larger sizes. You may be able to find something at Isabella Hosiery , The Stocking Store , Secrets In Lace or Hips & Curves .

thank you! I thought I did size up on the garter belt, but perhaps not enough. I also only tried on 1 stocking. Maybe with both stockings on, the garter belt will stay in place better...I don't know...but thank you for the awesome links...

Because of the shape of my body, I can't wear regular garter belts unless they are meant to be worn right at the waist. Everything I wear wants to move to the waist indent, and items that are not shaped for my figure will roll up. By the way, Brabarella has lots of Rago to choose from, MUCH cheaper than most places, as well as a decent selection of stockings. Most of the items are shown on real world women.

This is a really good topic, I've actually been thinking of picking up a garter belt from What Katie Did and was wondering how it would sit on me and if it would move or shift throughout the day and if that's just considered normal.
I'm not a skinny gal either Heidi so these answers will be helpful for me too :)

I love the George stockings! The things actually stay up. So, of course, every Walmart in my area got rid of them. And if they're available online, I haven't been able to find them. I've had some decent luck with Berkshire, but I keep hoping I'll find the George stockings again.

I've scoured the internet :( It's a Walmart exclusive brand, so it's pretty much available only at Walmart. But not on their website. It's a crappy situation, because I also get 10% off at Walmart.

Yeah I shop on their website from time to time, and noticed that. Although I did see some other Walmart exclusive brands on Amazon before, like Mainstays (home décor) and lingerie like Smart & Sexy. Ok technically Smart & Sexy have their own site, but I have yet to see that brand sold elsewhere. As for the George stockings, depending on which Walmart I go to, they range from $4.00 - $5.50 a pair.
