Hi I am hoping to have my lovely bridesmaids wear the Harley dress to my wedding and I could really use some sizing advice please!
One of my bridesmaids is 5' tall and is wondering whether the torso length is going to be a problem in this higher necked dress. I am also wondering whether Size L or XL will be the better fit as she falls in one size for bust and the other for waist!
Her measurements are 40-34-39 :) I am leaning toward the XL with a 33-34 inch waist sizing... since the last thing you want is the waist to be too snug!
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated :)
I haven't tried the Harley yet but I would definitely go by waist measurement! The PUG size chart hasn't failed me yet and I tend to fall between sizes.
I own 3 Harley dresses. I am 5'3, 38-29-43 and I wear a size large. I am very short waisted (I measure about 15.5 from shoulder to waist) and almost always need to alter PUG dresses. I did have to have the coral and olive dresses altered but not the blue. If her measurements are 34 waist I would say XL as the waist is snug on me at 29.
Thanks Amber that's really helpful! You had the 2 altered in length, or to the bodice? You look fantastic in all of them by the way! I'm kinda jealous my bridesmaids are wearing such an amazing dress haha, it's one that I want for myself! I am glad they are going to look gorgeous and get a dress they will wear again though!
I had the bodice length altered - basically she just shortened the straps that go around the neck.
I think a couple of my bridesmaids will need to do this... but I suppose it is a minor alteration... can't expect only a few sizes to fit so many different ladies perfectly ;)
Hey fellow Kiwi (I've seen you in the NZ rockabilly group),
I'm 4'11'' and the torso length was not a problem for me from memory. I could try it on tomorrow and let you know.
Haha, hi Anna! That would be awesome thanks... it sounds like it will be fine but it's always nice to be able to feel a bit more confident about a purchase!
Well it's for your wedding so it's pretty darn important ;)
Anyway it was good of me to check because I never bothered to look at where the bodice ended last time. It just felt fine. It hits me just above my belly button. It's very long on me so now in future I plan to take the skirt up so the bodice is shorter. Ideally I'd like the skirt moved upwards somewhere between 1" and 2" so it actually sits at the smallest part of my waist.
I take an XS and am 4'11''. Your friend is an inch taller than me and the XL will be an inch or two longer than my dress.
Thanks ladies for you help and replies! All of my lovely bridemaids have purchased their dresses now and they all fit (save for a few minor alterations!) Yay! One of my bridemaids even was so dedicated she flew down to the Burbank outlet to try on and purchase her dress... Am a lucky girl to have such good friends! Can't wait to see them all dolled up on my big day!
