Have any of you found a dress or skirt, etc., that you just couldn't pass up but then had to have it tailored so it would actually fit?!

I've found some pretty awesome pieces here but a lot of them are XL/2X and I wear a Medium. Is the purchase really worth it if it has to be tailored in order to be wearable?…

Hello everyone! I have started a new page on Facebook and could really use some love! It's called the Connecticut Pinup Page, but it's not just for CT fans. We share pinup, rockabilly and vintage photos and shopping from around the web. We wanted to make a place for everyone to share their pics and pages, and are currently looking for a cover photo! You can submit your photo or artwork if you'd like to have it featured at the top of our page. We will also be listing events like car shows and gatherings in the New England area. If you have a business or profile you'd like to promote, we'll gladly share it! This is also the only place to find news about the VERY affordable pinup shoots we will be hosting. We have fully booked two already, which is why we started the page. There is really no place to find great pinup shoots in our area without spending a week's pay, so we made our own! We offer professional hair and airbrush makeup, 40 minutes of camera time, ALL of your unedited high resolution digitals, 5 retouched images, plus photographer's release so you can use your photos however you choose! Current shoots sold at $150, and we hope to keep the price in that area. We will also do groups or parties! Prices may vary depending upon travel and location costs, but our goal is to always keep the model's cost under $200. I have booked the exact same session with a well-known pinup photographer for over $500, and in today's economy I know many people just can't afford to spend that much. I've been saving for months! Well, we may not be famous, but we can give you a great look, tons of photos and a really fun day at a much lower price! Please like and share the new page, we will be adding content and maybe a contest once we get the likes up! Thank you, dolls <3

I have been wearing PUG and repro for around two years now and have come across a lot of elitist behaviour from vintage "purists" as I would like to call them.

I wear PUG and brands like Bettie Page, Hell Bunny, Stop Staring, Bernie Dexter (and many, many others) but I never wear real vintage. I also like to mix pieces from Target and Modcloth and just about anything that is vintage inspired into my wardrobe. So when I go out, I often get asked if what I'm wearing is "vintage". When I…

When I tell people who are into the vintage look I often can't help but note their disappointment and disdain even, when I explain that I prefer to wear repro.

My reasons for not wearing vintage are:

Good quality vintage 50s & 60s clothes are very expensive now that the trend has taken off.

Often, the clothes need to be repaired, and I am no seamstress.

I am yet to find a vintage garment that is my size, and I've looked on Etsy for a while now. Like I said - I am no seamstress, and alteration is around $30 or so, so when you're already paying $100 + (extra for shipping because most sellers are in the US/UK) paying to get something altered is really irritating.

And even then, the item that has cost over $100 has been worn many times and ect. I could get something brand new for just as much or less.

I like for my look to be modern with a vintage touch, going for period accuracy isn't my thing.

The reason I've felt like writing this is because the other day I was browsing in an antique store and the owner complimented me on the dress I was wearing. I was wearing this dress:http://suburbanretro.blogspot.com.au/2012/09/bush-picnic.html and a cardigan and heels.

She asked if it was vintage and I said that no, it was repro, and that I don't wear vintage. At which point, she looked at me like I was a dog turd! Now, the vintage that this woman was selling were moth eaten/dirty 50s & 60s dresses for $200 - $250! Just think how much PUG that is!

So really, with the quality of the vintage on the market and the price that is being asked for it, why shouldn't I want to wear repro? And what right do these people have to turn their nose up anyway?

Have any of you girls encountered such behaviour before?
Post pictures of your favorite vintage finds!tag:www.pinupgirlstyle.com,2012-07-20:6504043:Topic:769622012-07-20T11:29:51.008ZKelly Davishttp://www.pinupgirlstyle.com/profile/KellyDavis

I just love looking at that stuff, and love seeing what other people have found. The photos of Dita's stuff in the other thread got me wondering just what cool stuff other PUG fans have.

I'm traveling with work and living out of a suitcase right now, but I have a few pics of my finds on my laptop, so I'll start. Most of my possessions are vintage.

The chairs in this picture cost me $25 for the pair, and the stool was $15. I took 'em home, cleaned 'em up, touched up the finish and reupholstered them. The Murano glass dish is a pretty deep teal and I got it at a SF sidewalk sale for just a couple dollars. The mirrors and dresser were also vintage finds, and pretty cheap.

The Brown Jordan patio set is so gaudy, and I love it! I keep thinking I'll sew new cushions but I haven't decided what I want yet.

I looove my lucite table. The glass top has diamond-beveled edges, so it sort of looks like a gemstone around the edges. I paid $320 for it and found it later on 1st dibs for 2K. This was a few years ago.

Let's see yours!

So ladies, I am looking to buy some new makeup (quality makeup in particular!) and would love to hear what makeup essentials you can't go without to complete your vintage look.

What makeup do you use in your everyday beauty routine? And your evening/night out make up?

What are some brands that you swear by?

Currently my range of cosmetics is pretty sucky and hence I look pretty blah! At the moment I use Maybeline liquid foundation, Natio loose powder, Elizabeth Arden eyebrow pencil, Natio eye shaddow and brow shaddow, Natio Bronzer, Napoleon Perdis lipstick in Aphrodite, and some lame drug store lip liner. Pretty lame, I know!

I'm looking to broaden my horizons with some better quality makeup and would love to hear what other vintage girls swear by :D

PUG around the world, where is everyone here from?tag:www.pinupgirlstyle.com,2012-07-09:6504043:Topic:568952012-07-09T17:33:51.350ZHarlow Napalmhttp://www.pinupgirlstyle.com/profile/HarlowNapalm

I live in Australia but have been living in Moscow, Russia for nearly two months. In Australia I live in Brisbane and I am yet to run into anyone dressed remotely vintage. Most of the time when I go out I get a lot of stares which normally ends up with me dishing out a lot of glares because I hate it when people stare...lol. Normally teenagers can be pretty nasty, but every now and then you do get some sweet person that comes up to chat about what I'm wearing. What is it like where you live, what kind of reactions do you get when you wear vintage/reproduction clothing? Are there others that wear anything similar?

In Russia I have gotten some stares from wearing PUG, but only in the good sense I think! I have noticed that there are quite a few women here usually in their 30s, who wear either real vintage (50s and 60s style) or modern vintage inspired dresses. On one occasion I saw a man in his 40s wearing what looked like completely authentic vintage 1950s/early 60s, dressed for a day at the office. Now keeping in mind that Russia is a developing nation, it could be that his look was completely unintentional and thrifted on account of how poor people are here, but either way he looked fantastic!

So what is it like in your parts of the world? I am really curious to know!
Repro Clothing Brands?tag:www.pinupgirlstyle.com,2012-07-09:6504043:Topic:571392012-07-09T17:07:07.563ZHarlow Napalmhttp://www.pinupgirlstyle.com/profile/HarlowNapalm

I was just wondering, what other repro brands do the rest of you PUG girls wear?! I am constantly on the look out for more to add to my wardrobe as I refuse to wear vintage.

Other than PUG, I also love to wear Bernie Dexter and Hell Bunny, what about you?

Does anyone here like Collectif? I have heard a lot of things about their stuff but am yet to actually get my greedy little hands on any =P
